Welcome to Twenty Twenty-three

Happy New Year! Wow, did the end of 2022 just seem to fly by, or is it me?!

Last week was filled with some running, but am happy to report it also included some downhill skiing! We ventured up to Brundage (for better or for worst) on Friday and wowza, was it busy! One of the main lifts was down for maintenance, so the lift lines were really long on remaining lifts. We did a few runs, but called it early and decided to head back up to ski once everyone has left town after the holidays.

Instead, we headed over to Little Ski Hill. With the T-bar and short runs, it tends to be less busy. I also have a soft spot for just being able to ski home when we are done.

Brooke prefers to be towed.

Ken and I went out two evenings in a row. I know, kind of a big deal. One night we headed to a couple’s home who we have spent the last couple of months becoming Strava friends with (they are also runners/outdoor lovers). It was great to meet in real life! We also had some friend’s in town that we met up with for drinks and a good catching up. May not seem like a lot, but it isn’t often that we go out after dark. Yes, I am 96 years old.

And now we are into the new year!

Any goals/resolutions for you?!

A few of mine include:
Training for and running 100 miles. (That one probably is enough for the yeart)
Choose the healthy food option
Add weight training to my week
Actually do the stretching. Anyone else? 😉
Prioritize what is important, not just what feels immediately necessary
Take more pictures
Write consistently

Cheers to sticking with them and accomplishing big things! Have a wonderful start to the new year!

This week’s workouts:
M: 4 miles, treadmill
T: Rest
W: 5 miles, treadmill
H: 4 miles, treadmill. 6.5 miles classic ski
F: Rest/ Downhill at Brundage
S: 10 miles, treadmill
S: 5 miles, treadmill.

Still Winter.

Hi everyone! Happy belated Valentine’s Day…I only started this post a week ago and have just been adding pictures to it so I am sure it will be very well put together and make a ton of sense. Someday I will get all of my life things together again.

There was been some good running. My neighbor told be that I looked like the sun. I guess I will take that as a compliment. Pretty excited how the numbers have been and the paces the I have been running at-promising at altitude and on not-ideal conditions (a good amount of treadmill miles too-those are hard on the brain).

IMG_1927

Brooke and Ken made a snow cave. Not sure who was more excited.

IMG_1916

I randomly ended up at urgent care at midnight a couple of weeks ago with a lovely kidney stone. Guess I better start upping my water intake game. ha. And yes, I drove myself because I didnt want to wake Brooke up and take her. Loved Steamboat Emergency Center-great service and had the whole place to myself. 😉 Luckily it was short lived-one CT later and 4 ibuprofen later and I drove myself right back home to wait it out. Didn’t miss any workouts, so I cant complain too much. Priorities.

IMG_1903

When did she become a teenager?

IMG_1898

Ken had so much fun at camp in Tuscon-guess he was tired the day he got back!

IMG_1892

This guy has a hard time relaxing, too.

IMG_1896

It’s been a pretty snowy winter.

Brooke started Pickleball with her homeschool group. She loves it!! (Ken, another mom, an instructor and I played this past week while the kiddos had their lesson and we had a great time, too!).

IMG_1988

That look when Ken walks out the door and Jasper has to make sure he is not starting the snow blower.

IMG_1981

What I wish I was doing right now.

IMG_1974

Ken had a 50 mile fat bike race 2 weekends ago…

IMG_1959

Mark raced as well…

IMG_1961

and they ended up having to hike about 12 of those miles…he was a little tired after.

IMG_1968

At least it was pretty waiting 3 hours for him 😉

IMG_1949

Not mad about playing in the snow.

IMG_1943

Last weekend we were supposed to travel to the front range for a race (both of us) but it snowed SO much that we decided it wasnt super safe to travel (not to mention the race would be yucky) so we stayed home. It was a good call because they ended up canceling the race because of road conditions.

So we played in the snow.

IMG_2014

There was a lot of snow plowing and blowing!

Wind blew a bit, too.

IMG_2003

Jasper’s winter paw fur game is strong.

IMG_2004

Brooke and I met up with her homeschool group in Dillon on Thursday night to go to the ice castles and it was awesome!

IMG_2067

We have recently watched all of the Star War movies (and took Brooke to the last one in theaters-she loved it!)-hence the need for light sabers 😉

IMG_2056

IMG_2055

Ken gifted me with a day to myself-which hasnt happened since Brooke was born. ha.

I spent the day in town running, working out, hitting the slopes solo, soaking in the hot springs and wandering around town. It was incredible. He had a meeting for dinner so we me up and Brooke and I went on our own little date.

IMG_2049

And that has been life as of late!

Ken is out riding this morning and I have 14 miles to take care of today-still working out the when part. 😉

Anyone else getting excited for Spring? We have loved all the snow and skiing, but it has been a pretty gray winter and we wont be mad about some sunshine!

Winter in October and Fall Pics

You guys. It is winter here. Seriously. I am not ready.

But oh yeah, hey, how are you?

We have officially moved into beanie season and I already miss fall.

IMG_1221

At least we have pretty sunsets I guess.

IMG_1223

Things have been fairly low-key over here. Ken has been SWAMPED with work. Which equal parts overwhelming and exciting. Starting a small business is scary enough, one that is weather/referral dependent is another story. Maybe it is good that winter started early? 😉 But yes, his new mobile auto service (focusing on season tire swaps) has been a big hit so far! I am doing the normal teaching thing and ramping up for bike race registration come December. Home school, training…all the things.

We have been doing the normal things. Dressing appropriately for hunting season to stay safe while running around the yard with a pool noodle. Totally normal.

Riding Daisy the Dino whenever possible.

IMG_1177

Working on our golf skills. Because, you know, the course is closed for snow.

IMG_1181

How Jasper feels about it. Just kidding. He loves it. But also loves being warm after playing outside.

IMG_1185

We picked up Brooke’s skis for the season (we rent them for her each year which is amazing because she would grow out of things so fast!). This year, we got her downhill skis AND nordic skis. Girl is already loving cross country skiing around the yard! We did it together and my heart exploded. Going to be a fun winter!

IMG_1187

Snowed some more.

59331409319__21339680-B5C6-432B-8C96-9BF2A7203187

Made a couple trips to the Front Range and both involved snowy drives.

IMG_1193

Someone got some new dino pajamas!

IMG_1202

Fireplace is life.

IMG_1116

We ventured to the pump track and ended up with a muddy mess. That was a fail.

IMG_1125

Love her.

IMG_1129

When did she start looking so grown up?!

IMG_1131

Ken got me some blue light blocking glasses. I love them. I work on the computer A LOT at night and have a hard time falling asleep after. These have been a game changer for me.

IMG_1147

When you get dressed for a run and realize everything you have on is Nike. Just over here feeling like a sponsored athlete. 😉 Also, yes, Brooke decorated my phone with llama stickers. Thanks, Alle. haha.

IMG_1149

Besties

IMG_1150

Got in a jog while Brooke rode her bike and Ken worked. Basically, we invited ourselves to join him in town since he was working on Saturday.

IMG_1168

We had more fun.

IMG_1171

And today it looks like this….6:45 am.

IMG_1263

Fun fact: I get to go outside and blow snow after a conference call today. I cant wait. <sarcasm>

In other news, I have officially registered for the Mount Charleston marathon in Las Vegas on April 4, 2020. In switching it up from this years long and slow running, I am going to try to qualify for Boston. Not sure yet that I have any desire to actually run Boston, but it seemed like a fun goal to at least see if I could do it! Plus, it will help with getting ready for Crusher in the Tushar where my goal will be top 10 in my age group (and shaving about 30 minutes off of my time from this year).

Officially I will begin training next week with a build up of running into some workouts. After a month long break (much needed), I am excited to jump back into some structured workouts!

Since it is apparently winter, I thought it would be fun to post some of Brookie’s Fall pics!

Hope that you have fall where you are at!!
