Fat Bikes and Big Training

Happy Hump Day, Everyone! Already through half the week! You’ve got this!

We have been having a jolly good time over here enjoying Winter….starting to get a little antsy to see some green, but the amount of snow says that will be a while!

Things have been busy, as is normally the case, but there has been plenty of fun had as well.

Homeschooling is going great. I love that we do a lot of it in bed with pajamas on. All the stuffies think it is great too!

IMG_8455

We all make sure to enjoy the views 😉

IMG_8458

Just working on those letters!

IMG_8464

Made sure to get some home school P.E. in last week and hit the mountain for a bit.

IMG_8467

Science is going well….we even transplanted it to dirt and it is living its best plant life!

IMG_8480

Makes it all worth it (rosy cheeks courtesy of playing in the snow).

IMG_8491

On Saturday, Ken had a fat bike race. Ken headed up around 6:20 am and I rode the trainer for 2 hours before Brooke and I made our way up North. We hiked out on the course a bit and enjoyed the waiting game! It was a well worth it and the two kids had a blast playing in the snow.

The conditions were good (for snow biking) but still heavy and hard.

IMG_8511

IMG_8513

He finished second overall in around 4 hours and 28 minutes for 45+miles. Wowza!

It may be the most wrecked I have ever seen him after a race too. It was clearly very hard!

Luckily, the race was close, so we came home, sat in the hot tub, he took a nap(ish), I worked a bit and then we got dressed and headed back up for the Awards at 6.

Someone made sure to look extra nice 😉

IMG_8523

They played Rock Paper Scissors to see who got to pick prizes first! Ken beat her and Brooke was more impressed with that than his bike performance! ha!

IMG_8526

Camp chair for the win!

IMG_8530

Sunday we went to church and hung around the house for the rest of the day. I rode the trainer for another 2 hours and we cleaned out a file cabinet. It was riveting!

This week it is back to the normals. Brooke practiced some photography work.

Great group shot.

IMG_8546

And then she helped with laundry.

IMG_8548

I am taking a cycling class in town on Tues and Thurs mornings for the month of February (mainly because my friend Amy is teaching it). Early wake ups for the 7:15 class, but it works for Ken to drop Brooke off to me and then we swim!

I was right with Jasper when he was begging to go to bed at 8:45.

IMG_8550

Current obsessions whilst trying to keep my body in one piece…thanks, Costco.

IMG_8554

And on a random note, our vine is out of control.

IMG_8556

Current condition: blizzard.

IMG_8557

And that’s that!

Just working away on all the things.

The First Signs of Winter

Howdy, folks! How’s it going??

Winter has shown up this week…mixed feelings! Haha!

Things have been busy over here the last few weeks…sometimes late into the night 😉

IMG_7226

Brooke has been making sure that Jasper gets a lot of extra attention from her. He is thrilled.

IMG_7229

With 30 miles of running last week (I managed to get a 7 miler in on Sunday-after splitting and stacking firewood for 6 hours both weekend days..that run was TOUGH), I needed some serious stretching. Joined Brooke for some Cosmic Kid Yoga (you got to do what you got to do, right?).

IMG_7230

There were some epic battles in the house.

IMG_7232

We have been getting hammered with rain and snow. It stops progress on outside projects (and means that it is time to put away outside furniture), but we have made up for the lack of water all summer!

IMG_7233

Some dinosaurs got married.

IMG_7234 (1)

Jasper surveyed his kingdom

IMG_7238

We have taken a few trips to the library. All she picks out are books on dinosaurs. Help me. She also refuses to look at me.

IMG_7244

Someone got some new sweaters! I think she is a fan 😉

IMG_7251 (1)

Over the weekend, we had some AMAZING fog/clouds. I was a bit obsessive.

IMG_7253

IMG_7255

On Monday, Brooke and I were in town for a meeting. We stopped by the grocery store and when we came out: blizzard.

IMG_7260

IMG_7261

The weather was pretty good yesterday (I even got to run outside for 4 miles!) so I split some more firewood (almost done!).

Today, on the other hand…..all the snow!

IMG_7268

There has been a crazy amount of balancing going on with house things, the class I teach starting up, teaching Brooke (LOVE), bike race meetings, Ken work, Ken working on starting a separate business…..so many things!! It is rare to find a quiet moment!

And those are the happenings right now!

Managed to grab 3 miles on the treadmill this morning. Was hoping to sneak in 3-4 more outside this afternoon, but it started hammering snow again. We will see how that works out 😉

Have a great rest of your week!!

Running, Gravel riding and a Trip to the Dentist. (with a side of weird weather)

Howdy, friends! How’s it going! Playing a little catch up over here after the weekend. It was spring-ish over here and I loved every minute. And then winter came back.

I did not take many pictures over the weekend…sign of a good weekend?

On Saturday, I headed out after breakfast for an 8 mile run (taper time!!). It felt surprisingly good and I finished with an 8:21 average pace. Once I made it home, it was time for some grub before sending Ken out on a 3 hour tour…I mean, ride. Brooke and I jumped on the quad and headed out to meet him for the last 30 minutes of his loop in case he needed any food or water.  Finished the evening out in the hot tub and everyone was happy.

Sunday started out with some bike race watching and latte drinking. It was nice to relax a bit and enjoy each other. Ken had planned to ride with a group, but since he had 4 hours of base riding to do (and the group NEVER does base) he opted to go solo.

Brooke and I headed to the pool and then the park and met him as he finished. We did a kiddo sway and I got out for a 3 mile run. I never run on pavement and since the half marathon is on the road, we thought I should pound some cement. I wasnt planning on going too fast, but I did my 3 miles at an 8:05 pace. Oops.

Since we were in town, I had brought my bike so that I could home. Ever the many-taskers.

It was an hour and a half (and 22 miles) of glorious gravel roads. Turns out that I have done very little outside riding and I was pretty tired when I got home!

IMG_5523

But the views though!!

IMG_5524

Hi, Hahns Peak!

IMG_5525

Another evening in the hot tub and some muscle work on Ken’s legs and then we called it a night!

Monday was filled with all the chores….and a trip to the dentist.

This girl LOVES the dentist. Maybe that is because she has like zero plaque, no cavities and gets to pick a toy. Gonna call that a win!
IMG_5528

IMG_5530

Yesterday looked like this…

IMG_5531

We took the pup out for a walk (Brooke ran the whole time). It was a bit windy, but plenty warm!

IMG_5532

And then today looked like this…

IMG_5535IMG_5536

Quite the difference, huh? Spring in the mountains.

Because I am crazy, I took advantage of the crummy weather and switched out my winter clothes for spring/summer clothes. Yep…I just ensured 6 more weeks of winter. Sorry!

Ken and I have plans to ride the trainers after Brooke goes to bed tonight (since the wind kept us up and we were too tired this morning!).

Brooke and I have plans for her to play with horses tomorrow morning….should be fun!!
