All the Snow and Weekly Training

Howdy! How goes it?? How has your start to 2019 been? Any special goals this year?

We have a lot of things being juggled right now, but overall things are going well! Ken and I are diving head first into endurance training/fitness this year. I pretty much took last year off from competition and I am more than ready to jump back in this year! Ken is signed up for a couple races in the next few weeks and we are excited to get into the swing of things.

First things first…Jasper is obsessed with his Alpaca. Seriously, the thing ends up everywhere!!??

We have been getting hammered with snow this winter. As in, running out of places to put it! It is only January and we have far exceeded the total from last year. Sometimes it gets a bit windy too…

img_8364

Good thing Ken is tall so he doesnt get lost in the snow banks!

img_8367

To give you an idea…this was last week and it has snowed at least 18 more inches (probably more). Ken’s bike is also an extra Large. That’s a lot of snow.

img_8377

My sweet sister, Alle, got me the Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow cookbook for my birthday and I have been having a blast trying a ton of new recipes! So many delicious and healthy things to eat. This week, I made one of the smoothies from the book. Brooke was not impressed with the green color (kale), so I got to finish that one off myself. It was delicious!

img_8380

Lots of snow playtime=lots of Vizsla naptime.

img_8383

One day, we got so much snow that our neighbor decided that his equipment was better suited for the quantity. I didn’t complain about the help!

img_8385

Seriously, though.

img_8386

My kid is the biggest snow fan…she is stoked on all of the snow we have!

img_8387

img_8395

Jasper is unsure. Hahaha. He loves the snow, but going just about anywhere in the yard is a challenge!

img_8396

Tired of snow pics yet? This has been life for the past few weeks!

img_8399

We did make a trip to Costco last weekend. It is right next to the Vail airport. This bad boy flew over our heads as we were heading in. So loud!

img_8411

Brooke dressed up as an astronaut and headed to space with her cat…made sure to take her microscope too 😉

img_8422

We had a home school group activity this week and headed to Stagecoach for some ice fishing. We lasted about 1.5 hours and then decided we needed hot chocolate. A few of the kids caught fish and it was so much fun! (Have I mentioned that I LOVE home schooling her!?!)

img_8429

img_8432

Then we got more snow. aaaaaaah!!!

img_8438

Ken got in his 4 hour ride yesterday with his buddy while I stayed home and rode the trainer. Today, it was my turn to get out. Gorgeous! 19 miles in 2 hours and only one crash (ice is slippery). Wonderful weekend!

img_8453

That’s what we have been up to! Just enjoying all the winter things!

Christmas and New Year’s, etc.

Howdy and Happy 2019! Dont ask me where the last 2 months of 2018 went, I have no idea. But hey, happy to ring in a new year that promises many exciting things!!

Let’s rewind a little bit and do a little photo drop…aka all the pictures on my phone that I randomly find and feel the need to share 😉 Isn’t that how you keep track of your life?

Some pre-Christmas fun. Brooke thought that she and Jasper could dress up like little chefs. They were adorable.

Brooke’s Tiger got all dressed up…for something??

IMG_7948
My sister (Alle) and my brother-in-law (David) joined us for Christmas. They made the 19 (?!?!!) hour drive from Portland to be with us. They brought their Drahthaar, Elsa (center) and their friends’ Vizsla, Ben (right) along to visit as well! It was AMAZING and we all had tons of fun!
IMG_7960
Brooke’s paradise 😉
IMG_7962
Brooke made sure to take excellent care of Elsa.
IMG_7966
Ben is 3 and a ball of energy. He is very excited about balls and will stare at you until you throw it! I took him out for 5 miles and he was happy to cuddle 🙂

BAAAAALLLLLLL
IMG_7976
Got our ski on!
IMG_7980
And hit up the hot tub! Not to mention some snow mobiling and epic sledding!

Christmas was super fun. Jasper LOVES presents.

IMG_1548
So does Brooke. Alle set up an amazing scavenger hunt for her and we were done before the sun came up. Kids. She had a BLAST following all the clues!

Our tree was perfect.

Always food on her face!

Alle and David actually left on Christmas Day, so we spent the next day (my birthday) doing a bit of skiing and making a trip to Costco.

On the 27th, I hopped on a plane and after countless delays, canceled flights and unplanned rental cars with midnight drives, I made it to Cincinnati. We spent Friday saying goodbye to my amazing Grandma, Lois. Luckily, since shopping and fashion are not really my thing, Alle had a dress all set for me when I got there! Alle and I gave the Eulogy at the Church and it was amazing to see a lot of the family that I had not seen in a while. (sleep deprived eyes)
IMG_8134
Saturday was spent eating. And hopping on the treadmill for 6 miles…because…eating.

Literally had 6 scoops of Graeters’ ice cream in 2 days. Still working that off 😉 And maybe the 7 pieces of pizza on Friday night.
IMG_8149
My flight on Sunday had me up at 6 and at the airport by 6:45 am. The airport was busy but I had plenty of time to grab the necessary caffeine before the flight took off.

After some delays, I finally made it home in time to hot tub and hang with the family!

New Year’s Eve was pretty low key and I fell asleep on the couch at 8:15. Ha.

On New Year’s Day, it was COLD. Like a high of 8 degrees cold. Ken and I rode the trainers for an hour (Ken did 1.5 hours). Then, I crazily threw on my running shoes and did 4 miles outside in the spongy snow (in 4 degrees). I was pretty tired after that!

We headed to a party and Brooke was thrilled to sled with some older girls.

IMG_8169
This morning, it was -20 at our house (Ken saw -32 degrees on the drive to work). Jasper found the best place in the house. 😉 Ken and I did an hour on the trainers and then I got in a 4 mile COLD run outside followed by weights. Is it bedtime yet??

And that has been the end to a year and the start of a new one! So many exciting things to come.

I hope you had an amazing Christmas and New Year celebration. Bring on 2019!

Thanksgiving, First Day on the Slopes and Back Pain Stinks.

Hey, there! It’s been a hot minute, huh? It seems like I have been on my computer SO much but have not been able to find a second to pop on here!

How’s it going?? Did you have a good Thanksgiving? Is it winter where you are, yet??

We have had our fair share of work:play balance going on over here.

A ton of my time has been spent learning all things WordPress (working on our race site)…when I find a little extra time, I cant wait to bring that knowledge to my own site! Spending so much time on the social media side (like so much that it is making me a little crazy) but figuring out a lot of things. Everything has it’s own language and I am working on learning them all!

Work aside….here are some other things we have been up to…

Just working on her butterfly skills

Getting in a good amount of running miles…bring on the snow!

Spending some quality time working on selfie skills. ha.

My sister happened to be in town a few weekends ago to host a work event. She did a focus group on cold weather running apparel and the conditions were perfect! We got in a 4.5 mile run in the snow and then had lunch while she did some interviews. It was an absolute blast hanging out with some awesome runners! and having my sister here!

This guy was a little tired at the end of the weekend…

Last week, we headed down to the Front Range for Thanksgiving. My sister-in-law and her husband hosted and it was a great time. Ken and I got in a killer run on Thursday (6 miles of up and down). Brooke played with the kitties for 3 days (they napped when she left. Hard). Time with family and all the foods.

The sass makes me need a nap, too 😉 Good thing she is cute!

Yesterday, Brooke and I headed into town for our first day on the slopes! I actually had a conference call that I took in the lodge at the top of the gondola and then we got our shred on! The snow was seriously better than all of last season.

This little bunny crushed it! Couldn’t believe it was the first day of the year! She will quickly be out-skiing me.

We chased the slope time with a trip to the movie theater. Do it all in one day, right? Ken met us and we caught Wreck it Ralph 2. It was hilarious and Brooke loved her date with me and Ken.

Random picture of the most tolerant dog in the world?

On the workout front, just plugging away at winter miles. Over Thanksgiving, I was in a different bed and my back was not a fan. My SI joints got pretty irritated (like couldn’t sleep or sit…or stand…er). Luckily, they have been gradually improving. After taking 3 days completely off, I was able to run 3 miles Monday and Tuesday really slowly. Today, I rode the trainer for 50 minutes in the morning and then did 6 snow miles around an 8:50 pace. Felt the SI joints for the whole run (mostly downhills) but more of an annoyance than pain. Hoping they keep improving.

That’s about it over here. Hoping that I will have some more time to hop on here. Winter is in full swing! Cant wait to bust out my xc skis and throw those into the workout mix. Supposed to snow tonight……

Until next time!
