Random Midweek Road Trip and 12 Treadmill Miles.

Hi there! How is your weekend going? We are having a nice, lazy day over here! It is a nice change from the whirlwind week!

Let’s see….what’s been going on??

Tuesday evening ended with a 5 mile progression run with a 1 mile side of cool down. Six miles on a Tuesday so that I could ride my bike on Wednesday!! The good part about basement running…hello, shorts!

On Wednesday, we were up early to pile into the truck to head to Boulder. Ken had to work down there for 2 days, so Brooke, Jasper and I hopped on the bandwagon.

After dropping Ken at work, we headed to Flatirons Mall. Brooke has been asking to do a Build-A-Bear for about a year and a half, so the timing worked and we made it happen. She had a BLAST and has not put the bear down since 😉

IMG_5368

We ran a TON of errands around town before taking a break at one of her favorite “parks”.

IMG_5371

Once we had our fair share of shopping, we ventured to Valmont Bike Park for Brooke to work on her skills. She crushed it! Such a good time!

I can no longer keep up on foot.

Around 4:30, I met up with Errin and we got changed to ride Flagstaff (a super popular climb in Boulder…that I happen to LOVE). Ken took B at 5 when he finished working and E and I headed out to climb! It was everything. I did the climb once and then Errin did it a second time while I traded with Ken so he could do it twice. I was pretty excited with how the climb went since I have only climbed two other times this year. The legs were a bit sore and tired after the progression run the day before…but it was still great!

Colin rode down from Longmont and E and I (along with Brooke) headed over to meet him at BJ’s for dinner. We ordered for Ken and he finished his workout before meeting up just before dinner was served! It was super fun getting to hang out with E and C for the evening. It had been a while!

Post-meal, we made our way to our hotel (we stayed at the La Quinta in Louisville because it is dog friendly) and I was incredibly impressed with how clean it felt. I am not huge on hotels, but I felt comfortable. Calling that a win!

Thursday morning, we dropped Ken off at work before heading to Denver to hit up the zoo!

She pretty much ran everywhere.

The hippo playing with a ball was a huge highlight!

Crowd favorite.

IMG_5401

We even grabbed a pretzel!

IMG_5409

After about 3 hours, we had seen all the animals (including the baby sloth…swoon). We made our way back to the car and swung by Whole Foods to grab a few snacks for lunch. I asked B if she wanted to hit up any more stores, but she was shopped out from the day before. She begged to go back to Valmont and after 2.5 hours of riding and playing, this is how we both looked!

IMG_5419

Packed up and headed to Ken’s office and did some painting while we waited!

IMG_5421

Once he was done, we did a Costco run before hitting the road back home!

Friday morning, we all looked like this…

IMG_5423

Ken went to work and we hung around the house being lazy. Mostly. I moved over firewood (in the rain/snow) and then put together Brooke’s new shelves.

IMG_5424

Spent the evening relaxing in the hot tub before calling it an early night and heading to bed.

This morning, we woke up to this gem from Errin and Colin. Sooooo good!

IMG_5425 (1)

I would have had a second, but I had a 12 mile run on the books, so I stopped at 1. Ken had 2 😉

Unfortunately, the weather has been icky and our road was a total disaster. Treadmill time. Also unfortunate….our internet was down all morning so there was no movie/tv watching in the basement. Saddest day! Ken had plans to back country ski with friends, so I only had time in the morning to get my workout done. I ran 12 miles (fast finish) listening to music from Ken’s playlist on his computer….in no particular order…those slow songs were rough! Thankfully K and B came down to “workout” for a few minutes, so that was nice 🙂

Ken is out playing so us girls have played princesses, trolls, crafted, taken a bath and now are finally relaxing on the couch. Exhausted!!

We have plans to ski tomorrow so we are hoping that the rain it is doing here means that it is snowing on the mountain! Fingers crossed!

Easter, Etc.

Hey, folks! How’s it going??

I was planning to pop in yesterday, but our internet was down ALL day. We had some insane winds, so I am guessing that had something to do with it.

But, anyways, how was your Easter?? Did you have a lovely weekend? Kind of strange having Easter on April 1st? We just let that one go by the wayside in our house.

On Friday, Brooke spotted this guy just after Ken left for work. Glad to see that he is well fed!

IMG_0618

IMG_0619

On Saturday, Ken left the house around 7:45 am to get started on his ride for the day. It was cloudy and chilly and the threat of snow felt present in the air. He is a tough cookie.

Brooke and I played around the house before it was time to get dressed and head to an Easter Egg Hunt. North Routt puts on quite a Easter Eggstravaganza 😉

Ken met us at Vista Verde Ranch around 10:45 am. We had a lovely pancake breakfast before venturing outside to do some exploring. The fire truck was a big hit.

IMG_0622

And the helicopter did not disappoint either.

IMG_0628

IMG_0629

Such a teenager already.

IMG_0631

Brooke and her little bestie.

IMG_0638

Before we knew it, it was time to let them loose.

IMG_0645

The 4 year olds were in with 5, 6, 7 and 8 year olds and the age differences were evident. Those big kids are intense! Brooke found a nice little stash of eggs.

IMG_0647

IMG_0648

She loaded up about 20 eggs while her little buddy, Bright only ended up with 1. Being the Brooke that she is, she put about 10 of her eggs in Bright’s basket and then my heart exploded. So very sweet.

IMG_0653

Once the hunt was over, we headed back home. I had a long run on the books, so the second latte with a side of cookie dunkers was probably not the BEST idea…but hey, at least they didnt suck to taste a second time 😉

IMG_5352

The wind was pretty much horrible and would have meant running uphill into a headwind on the way home, so I cheated and my sweetest family let me run 82% of my run with a (mostly) tailwind.

IMG_5357

Miles 1-9 were awesome, but that last mile was a mix of headwind/uphill/sore knees. But I was super happy with the first 9 😉

Once the fam picked me up, we made the quick drive back home. Ken worked on some projects while Brooke and I did some egg coloring. We used the shaving cream method and it was awesome!

They came out gorgeous!!

Jasper got in some good playtime, so he was more than happy for some relax time!

IMG_5359

A dip in the hot tub and some dinner and EVERYONE was ready for bed.

On Sunday, the morning started with a search for Easter baskets. Brooke found hers before I even made it out of bed. Geesh!

We had a lovely breakfast whilst watching the Tour of Flanders before heading to Church.

IMG_5361

Church had a second Egg Hunt and the kids were not sad about it! Also, brunch. Yum.

When we got home, I headed out for an 18 mile ride OUTSIDE and even though it was windy, it was amazing. Got home and Ken went out for about 2 hours. We had an early dinner before another trip to the hot tub.

Where is all of the snow going?!?!

IMG_5362

Our Monday was filled with a trip to the pool and grocery. Spent most of the afternoon cleaning before hoping on the treadmill for 2 easy recovery miles. Ken had a buddy over to do some work on his snow mobile, so it was an impromptu dinner party.

Today, we have been super lazy! I hung some coat racks in our bedroom and have done a bunch of chores, but things just feel like they are moving slow. Ken has a group ride tonight and I need to get my booty in gear and get my run done (switching my run/bike workouts with tomorrow). Hoping for a 6+ mile progression run on the treadmill….need some motivation!

This has me cracking up….she asked if I wore a mask when I changed her diapers because they smelled! hahahahha.

IMG_5365

Should be some fun stuff coming up in the next 2 days. Cant wait to share with you! For now….going to put on running clothes so I dont blow it off!

Return of Winter….We will take back Spring, thanks!

The week back after vacation is the longest week ever….am I right?!?! Today feels like it has been about 28 hours long already (and it isnt even 3:30!).

But alas, we will make it. Because the weekend is SO.CLOSE!

Here are some randoms from the week!!

Winter came back. Ha. (Happy to say that most of what showed up has since melted off again 😉  ).

IMG_5324

This is what Jasper thought about the return of the snow….

IMG_5325

Found my new favorite recovery fuel. High in protein, totally works, right?!

IMG_5326

Speaking of recovery…I needed it on Wednesday! I finally got in a great running workout. I ran on the treadmill for pace purposes. Warm-up followed by 2 miles at a 7:30 pace, 1 mile easy, 1 mile at a 7:30 pace, .5 mile rest and 1 more mile at the 7:30 pace followed by a mile of cool down. Eight miles total and 4 were hard. I will take it (especially after coming back to altitude).

Yesterday morning started with an early morning spin on the trainers with the husband. It was a bit of a shock to the system, but it had to happen.

Because of the killer snow, Brooke and I hit up the resort for about 3.5 hours of skiing.

IMG_5332

IMG_5327

Happened across a group checking out a porcupine in the tree! WHAT!?!?!?!

IMG_5333

We had a fantastic day skiing (getting back to the truck was the most exhausting part!) followed by some errands and home to the pup!

Enjoying our gorgeous flowers and vase from my parents-in-law. They make me feel like I am on a tropical vacation! Thanks, again!!

IMG_5337

Brooke is slightly obsessed with the Easter card from my parents. Super cheesy jokes and she just cant get enough!! hahaha.

IMG_5339

Other than that, just hanging out and doing chores today! Wondering if I will actually do my 4 mile run this evening or if I will blow it off…still up in the air 😉

Hope that you are having a fantastic Good Friday and wishing you a very Happy Easter!

We have some plans for the weekend…I will let you know how they play out on Monday! Bring on Spring!!
