Fit After Little Bits

eat right..work hard..play harder

March.

And just like that, it is March! How is it possible that January took about 6 months and February went by in the blink of an eye…and there was even an extra day?! 😉

Things over here have been pretty usual, but getting excited for things to ramp up with Spring headed our way (fingers crossed!) haha.

With Brooke getting older, we have a lot more “things to do” each week that require trips to town. She has been having a blast with her buddies playing pickleball, is really into swimming and has been taking lessons to prepare for swim team tryouts next week (we are not committed yet, but want to see what she thinks of the competitive environment) and of course, enjoying the ski slopes!

There has been a good amount of cycling for Ken as he ramps up for gravel racing season and running for me as I get ready to race in one month! Ahhh. Only slightly nervous about that 😉 Luckily, training has been going well and that is motivating.

Last month, I read a book. That sounds terrible. I love, love, love reading but somehow life just doesn’t seem to allow for the time right now. I know a lot of people keep them by their bed and read before going to sleep, but most of my nights include grading and working until it is time to crash on my pillow. I am also not very good at having a book around and being able to walk away from it-especially if it is good!

I happened to pick this up and I really couldn’t put it down. Like, finished it in 3 days. I have a problem.  It was really, really fun to read. Sometimes we need a bit of a comedic escape, am I right? If you are looking for easy reading (that maybe hits a bit too close to community home in some ways-hello yoga pants, I’m looking at you)…this was awesome.

We had some pretty fantastic snow in February and spent a good amount of time playing in it!

IMG_2116

On a trip to Costco, Ken found this and it was maybe the best day of his life. Cookie dough that you can eat raw without the fear of food poisoning?! It was gone way too fast.

60400117787__EDCE7790-C58E-469C-8730-25B4E9D272C9

We spent a weekend in Fort Collins so Ken could get in 3 days of long (warmish/dryish) rides. I got in 2 good runs and a 53 mile ride with Errin and Colin. Chased the ride with 18 miles of running the next day. Always a good time 😉

Pretty happy with these splits-followed with 8 miles of easy running after.

IMG_2133

Brooke decided she wanted to get crafty-ignore the tomato soup on her face from lunch 😉

IMG_2137

That little deer…

IMG_2138

Overall, we have had a pretty gloomy winter. A lot of days that were gray, even if it didn’t snow. We have had a couple of gorgeous, bluebird days in the last 2 weeks and it is making my heart happy. I need some sunshine!

IMG_2153

Chased by more skiing!

IMG_2159

Today was an exciting day. Brooke got her first salon hair cut (typically I just cut it at home). Since I was getting mine cut, I thought it would be fun for her to have a neat experience. She was excited (and a little nervous) and ended up having the best time!

IMG_2165

The whole thing was great and I am pretty sure she has been going out of her way to find mirrors!

IMG_2167

She might have come home and put on her full face helmet to play on her snow mobile before I could grab a picture, but it did pretty well 😉

IMG_2170

I got about 3 inches of mine cut off and somehow it was the first time I had it cut in Steamboat?! Dont worry, she left it long enough to go into a ponytail- #priorities.

IMG_2168

And that’s where we are at! While we love the snow and all the fun things to do in it, I have to admit-I am looking forward to seeing a color other than white. It has been a long winter after a short summer…bring on the green.

Hope you are having a great start to March! Is it “Spring-ish” where you are or do you still have snow covered everything?

End of a Decade

Well, hello 2020 and Happy New Year!

Yes, I vanished for the end of 2019. Things were busy and life happened and trying to find balance was a challenge. But, I’m here and have a ton of pics that will represent the last few months of the decade!

Halloween happened. It was cold. But how cute is she? She kind of reminds me of a character out of Game of Thrones, but hey, best to be warm!

IMG_1280

Did some good coloring. Thanks, Alle for the PNW coloring book-I love it, too 😉

IMG_1304

Ken’s hair got a bit out of control (he will probably kill me for putting this on here-but come on…that’s impressive!).

IMG_1324

My little rancher child.

IMG_1336

And then she turns back into a princess 😉

IMG_1328

We skied opening day (before Thanksgiving!!)

IMG_1360

IMG_1363

Have had some awesome home school field trips-learned all about screen printing!

IMG_1477

IMG_1483

Made bath bombs!

IMG_1399

We traveled down to Fort Collins for Thanksgiving. The cats were a big help with dinner 😉

IMG_1424

Brooke’s one Black Friday purchase…

IMG_1431

Came home to some snow…

IMG_1437

And recovered with some mega naps.

IMG_1536

Brooke convinced me we should go skating. She did great!

IMG_1540

We have spent some good time on the mountain! I really need one of these helmet covers. Brooke’s is sooooo cozy!

IMG_1525

IMG_1518

The new gondola is awesome!

IMG_1521

She stole my headband and it looks way cuter on her 😉

IMG_1589

More naps.

IMG_1580

And loving the fire.IMG_1569

We are using Daisy the Dino to gauge the snow in the yard. Spoiler alert: there is not a lot left showing!

IMG_1559

We had an incredible Christmas. Brooke got her first snowmobile. She is already so good on it! Like, stands and leans in corners. Apparently she got her dad’s athletic ability.

IMG_1617

IMG_1620

I cant.

IMG_1564

Road trips are fun when you have your best bud!

IMG_1510

Walked outside to find her like this. Yep, Ken’s kid.

IMG_1458

We loved having Alle and David here for Christmas!

IMG_1667

Jasper and Penny. Just being Vizslas.

IMG_1660

Brooke was an angel in the Church Christmas musical. It was adorable!

IMG_1643

Made Brooke famous in the SBT GRVL social media Christmas post. Cutest little Rudolf!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays! (1)

Legos!

IMG_1654

Tiny Magician!

IMG_1676

She wanted this giant tiger soooo bad!

IMG_1657

Best cross country ski buddies!

IMG_1638

And then on my birthday, Brooke fell asleep at the table. Before dinner. I guess we had a good time!

IMG_1673

And that’s how our year ended! There was a good amount of running involved as I head into my April race, but riding has been pretty limited. Finally jumping back into more of a routine and will be excited to share more on that later 🙂

I hope that the end of your 2019 was awesome and that you have an incredible 2020!

Winter in October and Fall Pics

You guys. It is winter here. Seriously. I am not ready.

But oh yeah, hey, how are you?

We have officially moved into beanie season and I already miss fall.

IMG_1221

At least we have pretty sunsets I guess.

IMG_1223

Things have been fairly low-key over here. Ken has been SWAMPED with work. Which equal parts overwhelming and exciting. Starting a small business is scary enough, one that is weather/referral dependent is another story. Maybe it is good that winter started early? 😉 But yes, his new mobile auto service (focusing on season tire swaps) has been a big hit so far! I am doing the normal teaching thing and ramping up for bike race registration come December. Home school, training…all the things.

We have been doing the normal things. Dressing appropriately for hunting season to stay safe while running around the yard with a pool noodle. Totally normal.

Riding Daisy the Dino whenever possible.

IMG_1177

Working on our golf skills. Because, you know, the course is closed for snow.

IMG_1181

How Jasper feels about it. Just kidding. He loves it. But also loves being warm after playing outside.

IMG_1185

We picked up Brooke’s skis for the season (we rent them for her each year which is amazing because she would grow out of things so fast!). This year, we got her downhill skis AND nordic skis. Girl is already loving cross country skiing around the yard! We did it together and my heart exploded. Going to be a fun winter!

IMG_1187

Snowed some more.

59331409319__21339680-B5C6-432B-8C96-9BF2A7203187

Made a couple trips to the Front Range and both involved snowy drives.

IMG_1193

Someone got some new dino pajamas!

IMG_1202

Fireplace is life.

IMG_1116

We ventured to the pump track and ended up with a muddy mess. That was a fail.

IMG_1125

Love her.

IMG_1129

When did she start looking so grown up?!

IMG_1131

Ken got me some blue light blocking glasses. I love them. I work on the computer A LOT at night and have a hard time falling asleep after. These have been a game changer for me.

IMG_1147

When you get dressed for a run and realize everything you have on is Nike. Just over here feeling like a sponsored athlete. 😉 Also, yes, Brooke decorated my phone with llama stickers. Thanks, Alle. haha.

IMG_1149

Besties

IMG_1150

Got in a jog while Brooke rode her bike and Ken worked. Basically, we invited ourselves to join him in town since he was working on Saturday.

IMG_1168

We had more fun.

IMG_1171

And today it looks like this….6:45 am.

IMG_1263

Fun fact: I get to go outside and blow snow after a conference call today. I cant wait. <sarcasm>

In other news, I have officially registered for the Mount Charleston marathon in Las Vegas on April 4, 2020. In switching it up from this years long and slow running, I am going to try to qualify for Boston. Not sure yet that I have any desire to actually run Boston, but it seemed like a fun goal to at least see if I could do it! Plus, it will help with getting ready for Crusher in the Tushar where my goal will be top 10 in my age group (and shaving about 30 minutes off of my time from this year).

Officially I will begin training next week with a build up of running into some workouts. After a month long break (much needed), I am excited to jump back into some structured workouts!

Since it is apparently winter, I thought it would be fun to post some of Brookie’s Fall pics!

Hope that you have fall where you are at!!
