Fit After Little Bits

eat right..work hard..play harder

March.

And just like that, it is March! How is it possible that January took about 6 months and February went by in the blink of an eye…and there was even an extra day?! πŸ˜‰

Things over here have been pretty usual, but getting excited for things to ramp up with Spring headed our way (fingers crossed!) haha.

With Brooke getting older, we have a lot more “things to do” each week that require trips to town. She has been having a blast with her buddies playing pickleball, is really into swimming and has been taking lessons to prepare for swim team tryouts next week (we are not committed yet, but want to see what she thinks of the competitive environment) and of course, enjoying the ski slopes!

There has been a good amount of cycling for Ken as he ramps up for gravel racing season and running for me as I get ready to race in one month! Ahhh. Only slightly nervous about that πŸ˜‰ Luckily, training has been going well and that is motivating.

Last month, I read a book. That sounds terrible. I love, love, love reading but somehow life just doesn’t seem to allow for the time right now. I know a lot of people keep them by their bed and read before going to sleep, but most of my nights include grading and working until it is time to crash on my pillow. I am also not very good at having a book around and being able to walk away from it-especially if it is good!

I happened to pick this up and I really couldn’t put it down. Like, finished it in 3 days. I have a problem.Β  It was really, really fun to read. Sometimes we need a bit of a comedic escape, am I right? If you are looking for easy reading (that maybe hits a bit too close to community home in some ways-hello yoga pants, I’m looking at you)…this was awesome.

We had some pretty fantastic snow in February and spent a good amount of time playing in it!

IMG_2116

On a trip to Costco, Ken found this and it was maybe the best day of his life. Cookie dough that you can eat raw without the fear of food poisoning?! It was gone way too fast.

We spent a weekend in Fort Collins so Ken could get in 3 days of long (warmish/dryish) rides. I got in 2 good runs and a 53 mile ride with Errin and Colin. Chased the ride with 18 miles of running the next day. Always a good time πŸ˜‰

Pretty happy with these splits-followed with 8 miles of easy running after.

IMG_2133

Brooke decided she wanted to get crafty-ignore the tomato soup on her face from lunch πŸ˜‰

IMG_2137

That little deer…

IMG_2138

Overall, we have had a pretty gloomy winter. A lot of days that were gray, even if it didn’t snow. We have had a couple of gorgeous, bluebird days in the last 2 weeks and it is making my heart happy. I need some sunshine!

IMG_2153

Chased by more skiing!

IMG_2159

Today was an exciting day. Brooke got her first salon hair cut (typically I just cut it at home). Since I was getting mine cut, I thought it would be fun for her to have a neat experience. She was excited (and a little nervous) and ended up having the best time!

IMG_2165

The whole thing was great and I am pretty sure she has been going out of her way to find mirrors!

IMG_2167

She might have come home and put on her full face helmet to play on her snow mobile before I could grab a picture, but it did pretty well πŸ˜‰

IMG_2170

I got about 3 inches of mine cut off and somehow it was the first time I had it cut in Steamboat?! Dont worry, she left it long enough to go into a ponytail- #priorities.

And that’s where we are at! While we love the snow and all the fun things to do in it, I have to admit-I am looking forward to seeing a color other than white. It has been a long winter after a short summer…bring on the green.

Hope you are having a great start to March! Is it “Spring-ish” where you are or do you still have snow covered everything?

Fly by February

Hey there! How’s your February been? As a huge contradiction to the January that seemed to go on FOREVER….February has absolutely flown by.Β  I threw pictures on here on February 11th. Clearly that went well πŸ˜‰

Things have been going well. Pulled in a bunch of different directions at the moment, but trying to manage it with some form of normalcy.

Just over here making grabbers…Thanks, KiwiCoΒ for the fun boxes that make Brooke’s day! (not sponsored-just really enjoy them!).

She moved up an age group and enjoyed the new challenge. Me too πŸ˜‰

Two weekends ago, we went down to Fort Collins for a shopping trip and a bike race. Ken is building out his trailer for his new business venture so we spent a solid 3 hours at Home Depot.

But seriously, thank goodness I always bring food.

On Sunday, Ken raced the Old Man Winter Rally in Lyons. It was incredibly cold at the start and I felt very lucky that Brooke and Jasper got to hang out with Errin and Colin.

While Ken was out racing, I drove up the canyon and ran 10.5 miles on the course so I got to see him twice! The first time he was with a group and then 1.5ish hours later, he and his buddy were off the front!

IMG_8592

I even made it back to the finish in time for him to roll through. He lost the sprint to his buddy (who he has been racing against for about 8 years-and who is 10 years younger than him), but he was thrilled with how the race went and excited about his fitness.

Technically, there were supposed to be timed segments but their system did not work. Had it worked, Ken would have taken the win (note: this fact was brought up my the friend that beat him). But Ken is very humble and took it in stride and was just as happy for his friend. That’s what I love about him πŸ˜‰

We enjoyed most of last week hanging out and embracing the snowstorms. We did a TON of baking (and, er, eating).

My plant turned 1 year old. It is doing amazingly well and I feel like I should win some sort of prize. Normally, I kill them.

Valentine’s day brownies…

Brooke and I took advantage of the midweek powder day πŸ™‚

She now skis powder and trees.

IMG_8630

She was sent some sweet Valentine’s Day gifts. I think Dinosaur is her love language!

My workouts have been pretty killer and this is what I looked like last Thursday BEFORE I ran. Joys of double days with skiing in the middle! ha!

IMG_8636

On Friday, we went out. I know, pick your jaw up off the floor. We are such homebodies, but we figured Brooke would enjoy the hot air balloons! It took her a bit to warm up to them, but once she did-she loved them! They were pretty awesome up close, though I have no desire to go up in one!

This week has been pretty busy with work, but we have managed to fit in some fun.

We are actually dog and horse sitting this week for our neighbors. He looks adorable, right?

IMG_8682

He is. He is even cuter now that we are working on the whole listening thing.

Not as cute: firewood destruction.

IMG_8683

And today we ventured into the world of Papier Mache.

IMG_8694

Ken is at a fat bike race this evening. Since the predicted temp is 8 degrees, we opted out of the cheering section. πŸ˜‰ We will cheer from the 75 degree house!

And there you have it! Hard to believe that February ends next week?! Say what?!

Winter Happenings

Well, hello! I am clearly crushing it at this blogging thing (ha!). It seems like I blink and two weeks has gone by (or more?!).

Life just seems to be flying by right now. Between working on our race, finishing up the last couple of weeks of the class I am teaching, homeschooling Brooke, running a household and training….I just need a nap.

On the workout side of things, I have been really good at getting in my 30 miles a week for the last 3 weeks. I even got 10 miles in last Wednesday (6 of them outside in a blizzard). My goal of 30 miles in the M-F work week even came to fruition last week. It was pretty nice to play on my bikes and skis this weekend πŸ™‚

I did a thing and signed up for the Belgian Waffle Ride (since I will be there and have a babysitter). It is 136 miles and 12,000 feet of climbing. What did I get myself into??!! It is May 5th, so let the training begin!

How about some random pictures from the last couple of weeks??

Spotted this little Ermine in our window well while I was running on the treadmill. Cutest little thing ever! I put a piece of 2×6 wood at a slant so he could make his way out.

Elf on the Shelf has been doing her thing.

There has been a good amount of outdoor play, but also so quality princess/makeover time. Clearly Brooke has a lot of work to do…

Saw the most gorgeous sunset on the way home one night….

Also saw these mamas and babies…

Went to the forest and cut down a Christmas tree…before Church, in 8 degrees. I needed more clothes.

I wear leg warmers to run in all the time and get teased for it! Finally, they are becoming a THING. Best day of my life.

Already have as many ski days in as all last year. So thankful for the killer snow this year!

In race news….we sold out in a week. Like well over 1000 people. We cant wait. It’s going to be awesome!

Side note: Ken and I almost ended up with frostbite creating this in 5 degrees.

The Pottery Barn bed saga continued….Ordered in March, 3 replacements later and finally she has a bed that is not cracked. It only meant that we had to drive the guys who assembled it back and forth 7 miles to their truck in a blizzard because they were afraid they would get stuck. Then, they forgot their tools so I had to go to town to ship them back the next day. Never ordering from them again!

When your kid asks to play with your phone, but you refuse to put games on said phone….little paparazzi….

Working on her selfie game. Hmmmmm Keep working….

Current road conditions…

Ken and I went on a fat biking date yesterday. He told me it was going to be a relaxed date ride. We climbed over 1000 feet in our 11.8 mile round trip. Ha. Thanks, Honey.

Went out with a girlfriend for dinner tonight. Third time in the 9 years I have been married. Clearly, I enjoy staying home with my family. BUT it was nice to have a focused adult conversation.

And now, I must stop procrastinating and return to grading! Getting pretty excited for some Christmas festivities over here!!!
