All the Snow and Weekly Training

Howdy! How goes it?? How has your start to 2019 been? Any special goals this year?

We have a lot of things being juggled right now, but overall things are going well! Ken and I are diving head first into endurance training/fitness this year. I pretty much took last year off from competition and I am more than ready to jump back in this year! Ken is signed up for a couple races in the next few weeks and we are excited to get into the swing of things.

First things first…Jasper is obsessed with his Alpaca. Seriously, the thing ends up everywhere!!??

img_8362

We have been getting hammered with snow this winter. As in, running out of places to put it! It is only January and we have far exceeded the total from last year. Sometimes it gets a bit windy too…

img_8364

Good thing Ken is tall so he doesnt get lost in the snow banks!

img_8367

To give you an idea…this was last week and it has snowed at least 18 more inches (probably more). Ken’s bike is also an extra Large. That’s a lot of snow.

img_8377

My sweet sister, Alle, got me the Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow cookbook for my birthday and I have been having a blast trying a ton of new recipes! So many delicious and healthy things to eat. This week, I made one of the smoothies from the book. Brooke was not impressed with the green color (kale), so I got to finish that one off myself. It was delicious!

img_8380

Lots of snow playtime=lots of Vizsla naptime.

img_8383

One day, we got so much snow that our neighbor decided that his equipment was better suited for the quantity. I didn’t complain about the help!

img_8385

Seriously, though.

img_8386

My kid is the biggest snow fan…she is stoked on all of the snow we have!

img_8387

img_8395

Jasper is unsure. Hahaha. He loves the snow, but going just about anywhere in the yard is a challenge!

img_8396

Tired of snow pics yet? This has been life for the past few weeks!

img_8399

We did make a trip to Costco last weekend. It is right next to the Vail airport. This bad boy flew over our heads as we were heading in. So loud!

img_8411

Brooke dressed up as an astronaut and headed to space with her cat…made sure to take her microscope too 😉

img_8422

We had a home school group activity this week and headed to Stagecoach for some ice fishing. We lasted about 1.5 hours and then decided we needed hot chocolate. A few of the kids caught fish and it was so much fun! (Have I mentioned that I LOVE home schooling her!?!)

img_8429

img_8432

Then we got more snow. aaaaaaah!!!

img_8438

Ken got in his 4 hour ride yesterday with his buddy while I stayed home and rode the trainer. Today, it was my turn to get out. Gorgeous! 19 miles in 2 hours and only one crash (ice is slippery). Wonderful weekend!

img_8452

img_8453

That’s what we have been up to! Just enjoying all the winter things!

Winter Happenings

Well, hello! I am clearly crushing it at this blogging thing (ha!). It seems like I blink and two weeks has gone by (or more?!).

Life just seems to be flying by right now. Between working on our race, finishing up the last couple of weeks of the class I am teaching, homeschooling Brooke, running a household and training….I just need a nap.

On the workout side of things, I have been really good at getting in my 30 miles a week for the last 3 weeks. I even got 10 miles in last Wednesday (6 of them outside in a blizzard). My goal of 30 miles in the M-F work week even came to fruition last week. It was pretty nice to play on my bikes and skis this weekend 🙂

I did a thing and signed up for the Belgian Waffle Ride (since I will be there and have a babysitter). It is 136 miles and 12,000 feet of climbing. What did I get myself into??!! It is May 5th, so let the training begin!

How about some random pictures from the last couple of weeks??

Spotted this little Ermine in our window well while I was running on the treadmill. Cutest little thing ever! I put a piece of 2×6 wood at a slant so he could make his way out.

Elf on the Shelf has been doing her thing.

There has been a good amount of outdoor play, but also so quality princess/makeover time. Clearly Brooke has a lot of work to do…

Saw the most gorgeous sunset on the way home one night….

Also saw these mamas and babies…

Went to the forest and cut down a Christmas tree…before Church, in 8 degrees. I needed more clothes.

I wear leg warmers to run in all the time and get teased for it! Finally, they are becoming a THING. Best day of my life.

Already have as many ski days in as all last year. So thankful for the killer snow this year!

In race news….we sold out in a week. Like well over 1000 people. We cant wait. It’s going to be awesome!

Side note: Ken and I almost ended up with frostbite creating this in 5 degrees.

The Pottery Barn bed saga continued….Ordered in March, 3 replacements later and finally she has a bed that is not cracked. It only meant that we had to drive the guys who assembled it back and forth 7 miles to their truck in a blizzard because they were afraid they would get stuck. Then, they forgot their tools so I had to go to town to ship them back the next day. Never ordering from them again!

When your kid asks to play with your phone, but you refuse to put games on said phone….little paparazzi….

Working on her selfie game. Hmmmmm Keep working….

Current road conditions…

Ken and I went on a fat biking date yesterday. He told me it was going to be a relaxed date ride. We climbed over 1000 feet in our 11.8 mile round trip. Ha. Thanks, Honey.

Went out with a girlfriend for dinner tonight. Third time in the 9 years I have been married. Clearly, I enjoy staying home with my family. BUT it was nice to have a focused adult conversation.

And now, I must stop procrastinating and return to grading! Getting pretty excited for some Christmas festivities over here!!!

A 5th Birthday and Lots Of Yardwork

Hi there! I feel like I need a disclaimer that says: See you in the Fall! Barely a minute to put thoughts together in the Summer!

Quick recap on some things going on….

A pallet of natural bricks showed up at my house last week. Projects Projects Projects.

IMG_6259

Made sure to get right to work 😉

IMG_6276

And because I can never only have one project at a time….refinished my Teak bench.

IMG_6284

Looks sooooo good.

IMG_6287

More bricks.

IMG_6292

Someone thought they were a balance beam.

IMG_6294

I got a little break over the weekend when my sister and mom showed up to celebrate a certain little lady’s 5th birthday!

IMG_6297

Brooke was SOOOO excited and we did all the things.

IMG_6300

On Saturday, Alle and I did a 30 mile ride before we all headed to the lake for some paddle boarding.

On Sunday, we had a reservation for brunch at 11. Someone dressed up!

IMG_6304

That face though!!!!

IMG_6308

Brunch was on top of a mountain. The views were insane.

IMG_6311

Girl loves her Daddy!

IMG_6316

IMG_6328

Due to some airline issues, Ken ended up taking Alle and my mom to Vail to fly out. They left at 4 am. Ouch.

Brooke and I got to stay home and spend the day cleaning up before heading to ballet. We rode there. Good combo 🙂

IMG_6337

Tuesday was Brooke’s actual birthday. We spent the day doing all sorts of fun things. Mini golf, the pool, grocery shopping 😉

IMG_6341

IMG_6343

Got home and celebrated with Jasper.

IMG_6349

It was a great day! I even fit in 10 x 1 minute hill repeats good for 4.5 miles of running!

This morning, I got to work on digging some trenches. Always good when you have worn through a glove by mid-June. Ugh.

IMG_6352

Nice trench next to the back of the house to run some pipe. It is a foot deep. Be jealous.

IMG_6355

More trenches for more bricks. I’m tired.

IMG_6357

And it appears a fire hath started. Again. Mid-June. Scary.

IMG_6358

And that’s about it! There have been many other workouts in there, I am just too tired to think about when 🙂

Hope you are having an amazing summer!!
