Road Trip and Classes

Hey there! How was your weekend?? I took a little trip to the Front Range for some continuing education classes while Ken and Brooke stayed home and played! It was a different kind of weekend than the usual.

Last week, we started getting dustings of snow…

Brooke and I made it back to Storytime Stretchers for the first time in forever. She loved it.

We have had a TON of rain/snow/slush. I think we have actually made our way back from our drought summer!

We are all loving the homeschooling over here. This guy has to join in on the fun!

Ken brought this book home for me. He thinks I would be good at it. Ha. I started reading it. They literally move buckets of gravel as an obstacle. Maybe I would be good at it!

Last Friday night, we got dressed up and went to dinner at Mambo’s because: a) happy hour and b) Peach pizza is still happening!

We headed to a birthday party afterwards and stayed until about 9:15. Brooke had a great time once the middle school aged kids got there. She plays up in age groups! hahaha.

She took my phone to capture some important aspects of the party.

Good one, Brooke.

We got home around 10 and I finished packing. My alarm went of at 3:50 am. Ouch. Luckily, it was an easy drive and I got to my class about 20 minutes early (started at 8 am). I even got to FaceTime Brooke when she got up!

At lunch, I was able to sneak out on my old training paths…unfortunately, they have paved them since we moved 😦 It was still gorgeous and woke me up for the rest of the day 😉 And, let’s be honest, I had not ridden my bike outside in a LONG time.

Since I skipped the time at lunch to grab food (I forgot my lunch since I left the house at 4 am :/ ), I grabbed a bag of chips from the hotel. Luckily I had grabbed a recovery protein shake and Honey Stinger bar from home!

Finished class, met up with E and C for dinner, hit Trader Joe’s and made it to some of our friend’s house to spend the night.

Sunday morning saw several inches of snow on the ground and some super chilly temps. Made it to class and the instructor was nice enough to let me head home early and finish the remaining 3 hours online!

The drive was a bit nuts and I watched several semi-trucks and cars slide off of I-70.

But by the time I made it out towards my house….dry!

IMG_7308

And even some sun!

I was pretty happy to see the fam!

Yesterday was filled with a media meeting, some errands, school work, grading, media-ing (totally a word) and a 4 mile run (oh and an hour on the trainer pre-dawn).

Today we did school, I finished my online hours from my class, started taking down outside furniture and prepping for winter. Got in a relaxed 5 mile run and even a little stretching). Did half of my lab grading. Whew. Time for bed!

Skating Rink for a Yard

Hey, hey Thursday! Missed you yesterday, but we were a bit all over the place.

We are not the only thing that was all over the place yesterday. The weather was out of control. It rained a lot of the night on Tuesday…nothing like going to bed to the sound of rain at the beginning of January…in the mountains. We woke up to a bit of light snow…on top of the soggy old snow.

IMG_0124

Wet much?

IMG_0125

Brooke, Jasper and I loaded into the truck to head into town (she had ski at noon). I was on the fence about taking her since she is still getting over her cold and my mind was 100% made up to skip it when it was POURING rain on us for our whole drive in?!?! Um, no one wants to ski in RAIN. No thanks. Happy with my choice.

Instead, we hit up the grocery store for some much needed food….since I currently need to eat the whole house.

When we came out…it was absolutely hammering snow. Oh weather…whatcha doing?!

IMG_4565

The roads instantly became a crap show. Slush and slippery EVERYWHERE. Town was bad enough, but getting home on our dirt road was disgusting. I could turn the steering wheel a quarter of a turn to either side and it would not change our trajectory in the least. Perfectly safe 😉

Our driveway became an absolute disaster. Water under snow…gross.

IMG_4566

Since I had looked at the weather and knew that it would be dropping to 11degrees overnight, I had to get out and TRY to move some of it with the quad and plow. Could you imagine it freezing like that?!

I spent over an hour moving slush-way harder than moving snow! And came in to this…

IMG_4567

Well, I guess she had to stay busy somehow 😉

Ken was supposed to work late, but brought his computer home before it became more treacherous than it already was!

This morning, we took advantage of me being to tired to fight putting away toys last night and did some lego building.

IMG_0127

This guy was so impressed 😉

IMG_0129

I headed out for 4 miles of running…on a skating rink (thank goodness for spikes!!). Had to snap a pic of this though…sheets of snow/ice sliding off the shop!

IMG_0130

Looked pretty neat!

IMG_0131

The run was tough…even after taking yesterday off, my legs are pretty tired. Only 12 miles left in 4 days….I can do it…I can do it….

I legit couldnt have stayed upright without my spikes. They win the day.

IMG_4574

I was thrilled to go out 😉

IMG_4571

I must say, I got that Brooks headband about 5-6 years ago and still love it. Just the perfect amount of warmth!

Alright…time to attack my living room….and maybe take a shower 😉

Tomorrow is Friday…woohoooooo!!!!

I Said Snow…Not Rain :/

Hi there and happy Tuesday 🙂 How’s it going? Get out for a run today?? Ride your bike??

We have a cloudy sky today, but it is WARM. Like over 40 degrees. On January 9th. Not great. Send snow. We are SUPPOSED to get a good storm starting today through tomorrow….BUT our snow has become rain today. What?!

IMG_4564

That could mean a sketch drive for the husband tonight. Ugh.

The B is still under the weather with the cold garbage that is plaguing everywhere it seems. She feels fine and wants to run around and be crazy, but she has a super stuffy nose and cough (luckily the cough took a break overnight!). She is spending some quality play time in the house. Hoping it is better tomorrow and she can ski, but I wont take her if she still sounds iffy. We try to keep our germs to ourselves.

This morning, I got in 3.1 miles of super easy running (I did 3 yesterday too instead of two because it was sunny and gorgeous and in case I end up with her cold, I am trying to get as many miles in as possible!). I am currently at 56/80 km or 70% with 6 days left! That is about 15 miles in 6 days…I hope I can handle that 😉 Created a bit of a buffer there pre-loading last week! Maybe I will even throw a rest day in there! My legs would be okay with that.

Spent some quality time with the foam roller today. Need to stretch more this afternoon.

My plants are wondering why they are not covered in snow yet.

IMG_4559

Post-run wood moving is a great cool down, right?

IMG_4560

These guys are ready to go….just need some snow to fall.

IMG_4561

I mean, really….melting….and the sun is not even out! Feels like Spring.

IMG_4563

I was way overdressed for my run and ended up pulling off clothes left and right. I have not even worn my spikes once this “winter”. So weird!

On a happy note, it is starting to be lighter longer in the evenings!! It was still light-ish at 5 yesterday evening. I will take every single extra light-filled minute!

That’s about it for us today…unless you want to hear about Paw Patrol or Shimmer and Shine…trying to keep this kiddo low-key is tough! Current mood: washing her dinos in her bathtub. Whatever works!

See ya later!
