Quick Trip and Training

Hey there! How’s it going? Having a good start to 2019? Just doing the normal things over here (with a quick trip for a mini-training camp in California). It has been a big couple of workout weeks over here (read: 10+ training hours 2 weeks in a row) so I am enjoying a more restful, recovery week right now!

Some random phone images? Dont mind if I do….

My sister gave this Alpaca to Jasper for Christmas. He LOVES the thing. He carries it all over the house and bathes it often.

We have been getting a little snow this Winter….the Resort has 17 inches in the forecast!

img_8248

Last Wednesday, we picked up Ken’s business partners/teammates and headed for Southern California. There were 5 of us (plus Jasper) in the F-250 for the 14 hour trip!?

Somehow, it worked.

A little different landscape.

img_8255

We got there Wednesday evening and hung out a bit before calling it a night.

Thursday morning, we hopped on bikes and headed for the hills. I had gravel tires on my bike while the others were rolling on slicks, so it was extra work for me. I did 35 miles in about 2.5 hours while the rest of the crazies got in 70+ miles for the day!

When you forget your swimsuit, but luckily your Mom wears the same size and has extras 😉

After a quick dip, my Mom, Brooke and I headed out the door for the Zoo. Brooke was so excited!!

By the time we got home, the others had loaded up and headed for the coast (they did 3 days of riding around Malibu while B and I stayed in the Valley).

Friday morning I got in a 7.5 mile trail run. It was awesome…there was so much oxygen in the air!

We had some appointments and errands to run afterwards. We stopped by Disney to do a little shopping and Brooke made friends with a squirrel. It was seriously out of a movie. It followed her around and came when she called. Crazy!

Meanwhile, the other 3 played in the mountains.

Just modeling her new Jasmine outfit…

img_8299

I ventured out for a 1.5 hour ride around the area before making it home in time to hop in the pool with Brooke. Girl loves her some water!

My brother, sis-in-law and their kiddos came over for dinner and they all had a blast!

img_8304

Saturday was really rainy. Brooke didnt mind at all!

img_8312

I went out for a 10 mile run (8:10 pace) and got poured on! I was in a tank and shorts (with a long sleeve tied around my waist). People looked at me like I was nutty. But hey, it was like 50 degrees!!

The weather took a turn for the better and we were able to get the pups out for a hike in the afternoon.

Rockstar!

Meanwhile, again, the others enjoyed some views as well.

Sunday started out with a 2 hour ride for me. Made it to the top of the mountain and the views did not disappoint!

img_8344

img_8345

We were also able to sneak in another quick hike!

img_8348

Post-hike, we packed up and the other 3 picked us up to start our trip home! We made it to Vegas and hit up the RIO’s buffet. It was divine. Brooke was a little overwhelmed by the amount of food.

After a quick sleep, we were up at 4:45 to continue our trek home. Made it back to the Boat in time for dinner!

Did some town things on Tuesday, but Brooke and I have spent a good amount of the last two days catching up on school and work. Not to mention clearing snow!

img_8359

Took Monday and Tuesday as complete rest days.

Wednesday- Rode the trainer for 45 minutes

Thursday-Rode the trainer for 60 minutes plus ran 4 easy snow miles.

A lot of double days on the horizon for me and then I will switch to primarily cycling in March. I actually signed up for my friend Amy’s indoor cycling class for the month of February (so every Tues/Thurs morning I will be in town). Looking forward to some hard training and hard recovering….if only I could learn to nap!

Hope everything is going well!!

Some Cold Days, a Great Workout and the Pool!

Howdy friends! How has your week been? We have had a blast of winter the past few days but we are not complaining! Nice to finally have some snow.

On Monday evening, I headed out to move some snow so the husband could get back up the driveway. It was a bit chilly…and windy. Not the best combo…but we have all the clothes.

IMG_4925

Tuesday morning was -3 degrees. Since the neighbors are in Hawaii (not jealous or anything 😉 ) I headed over to feed the horses and birds. Our other neighbors were also gone, so I had to grab eggs out of the chicken coop. I was a frozen hot mess when I got home!

IMG_4927

I think he liked the smells on my pants, because he just wanted to be in my lap!

IMG_4929

Ken opted to take his fat bike to ride at lunch, so I hit up the trainer for an hour just before lunch. It had been a while since I had done anything other than soft pedal or base riding, so it was nice to hop into the tempo zone for a good part of the ride!

Someone got a new rain jacket. Bring on Spring!

IMG_4931

Yesterday, we headed into town for the usual errands and ski lessons.

While the B played on the slopes, I headed out for a 7 mile run. It was too cold in the morning to bring Jasper (-13 degrees) so I was solo. I opted to stay on the path so I could get in an actual workout.

1 mile warm up and 2 x 2 mile efforts with a mile between and a mile cool down (though at 19 degrees, not sure how much I needed to cool down!). The efforts averaged around 7:45 min/mile. I call that a win since I was shooting for an 8 min/mile pace and the path was a mix of concrete, spongy snow and ICE. Almost went down a few times, but happily kept it upright.

Post run arm sweat. Delish. Ugh.

IMG_4935

I am a HUGE fan of leg warmers. I pulled them up over my knees on the easy miles since it really was cold enough to feel it in the joints and then pulled them down for the efforts. Perfection. Plus, who doesnt like to act like we are back in the ’80s?!

IMG_4936

We did a little shopping and these two cute plants came home so we could pretend that it is Spring.

IMG_4937

By dinnertime, I was eating this out of the container. Interval days, am I right?!

IMG_4938

Ken got home around 7 from a long day of work and travel.

This morning (after feeding all the animals), B and I hit up the pool for some play time. It was perfect. Before grabbing the most delicious donuts (because we JUST realized that we have a donut place?!). No picture because we inhaled them!

IMG_4939

Now it is time for some cleaning and cleaning out the fireplace! Dream big!

Have a great night!

Library, Pool, Park…bedtime??

Tomorrow is Friday. Always a good sign 😉

A few randoms for today!

Brooke’s dinosaur obsession runs deep.

IMG_3905

This totally made me laugh!

IMG_3906

Brooke and I had a busy day today!

It started out with some cuddling. My heart. Swoon.

IMG_3909

After some morning chores, we got dressed and headed to the library for yoga story time. Good job with the savasana, Brooke! Two of our good friends happened to be there, so it was extra fun today!

IMG_3910

Spent some time reading (about dinosaurs) before heading outside to check out the ducks.

IMG_3912

She loves this…

IMG_3913

Grabbed a sandwich to split before heading into the pool. Straight for the tomato!

IMG_3915

After about an hour in the pool, we got dressed and stopped by the park really quick.

IMG_3917

Another park with a terrible view.

IMG_3918

Besties.

IMG_3922Headed home to relax a bit before putting clean sheets on the bed and making dinner. It was a super fun (and exhausting day). Somehow, I was far more tired than she was. Maybe it was that 5:15 alarm and ride this morning?? Pretty much forgot that Ken and I rode today. Forty-five minute easy spin…for the win!

And now to finish grading before I pass out on the couch 😉
