Fit After Little Bits

eat harder

Thanksgiving and then some.

Hey Friends!! How was your Thanksgiving week? Get in some good relaxing? Or awesome workouts? Or so much food that you could still pop??

It has been a bit since I checked in (I kind of just went full blown MIA for Thanksgiving-I took no pictures and just enjoyed being in the moment), so I thought I would just give some highlights.

Flashback to last Monday’s ride and the fact that it was freezing in the basement. Getting to be that time of the year!IMG_4057

On Tuesday, we had swim lessons/gym workout (Ken and I had ridden at 5:45 am). Did some grocery shopping before coming home to clean the hot tub. It needed it!! No biggie that it started to rain on me and I froze. Brooke snapped this pic of a rainbow that showed up….Yes, that is me on the right in sweats in the hot tub. Perfectly normal.

Brooke did some work while I was outside in the elements. Interesting set up there, kid.

On Wednesday, we began our trip down to Fort Collins. Brooke and I packed up while Ken started the trip by bike! He got in 3 hours and 55 miles of wet and cold roads, but was pretty excited for the ride. We picked him up and he changed clothes before hopping in the truck for the duration of the drive.

A couple of hours later, we were at E and C’s house! While I really didnt want to go workout, I decided to throw on my running shoes and take Jasper to the local trail (0.4 miles from the house!).

We jumped on the dirt and had an incredible 5 mile trail run. It was one of those runs where you dont want to stop! The weather was amazing and the sunset was out of this world. Hadn’t run in a while, so those 1200 feet of climbing were not easy, but that technical single track descent was

Post dinner chilling….Jasper was tired from our run too 😉

Thursday (Thanksgiving) morning started with a super yummy cinnamon bread french toast breakfast! After hanging out for a bit, the 4 of us headed out for a mountain bike ride. Errin was sweet enough to wait for me throughout the ride while I struggled to wrap my head around the whole mountain bike thing again. Two hours of gorgeous weather and trails was a pretty neat way to start the day!

Once home, we hung out and worked on food prep for the rest of the afternoon. Followed this up with an evening of eating! As always, dinner was fantastic. I only had 1 plate of food and a little bit of dessert. Most of the time, I over-indulge, but I reigned it in this year and was happy not to have a food coma….the sangria on the other hand…..cant stop, wont stop 😉

Black Friday included popping around to some stores. I headed out with Ken, Colin, GrandBob and Brooke. We hit up Jax, Lowes and Costco (The guys also braved Harbor Freight…I have to draw the line somewhere 😉 ).

The rest of the day was filled playing with Brooke while the guys projected in the basement and then we had a second Thanksgiving dinner. Yay for leftovers!!

On Saturday, Ken and I were able to ride Rist Canyon on the way out of town. GrandBob was coming home with us and allowed us to ride while he drove Brooke and Jasper and met us over the hill! Thank you again!!!

I took almost 3 minutes off of the last time I did the climb (only my second go at it!)….and my crazy husband rode it in some ridiculous time of about 43 mintues. Right. I totally feel like a sloth 😉

Got my dream ride as I got picked up at the top of the climb and didnt have to descend down!!

Backseat crew!!!

Views aren’t too bad on the drive 😉

Home in time to unload, have dinner and hit the hot tub (post-B bedtime) and collapse into bed!

Sunday saw Ken and GrandBob out in the shop for most of the day installing a wood stove. We lucked out with some killer warm weather and tried to spend most of the day outside (with a side of some Christmas decorating for me and B).

Nene showed up in the late afternoon and we enjoyed a nice dinner and some relaxing before making it to bed for the night.

Today we said goodbye to the fam, Ken headed to work and Brooke and I messed around the house….laundry, cleaning up, etc…Squeezed in an hour easy on the trainer. And then spent some time “camping” in the house with Brooke. A child’s imagination is endless!

Now it is time to jump back into grading and the real world! Hope you had a great one!

Dinosaurs and Camping and Mountain biking, oh my! Also, picture overload.

Hi Friends! How was your weekend?? Anything fun and exciting going on? Halloween festivities??

We jetted off on Friday for a weekend adventure to the land of Utah. I will try to limit my words since I have an absolute photo overload post for you!!

On Friday, we made the trip to Dinosaur, Utah. Brooke is currently OBSESSED with dinos, so it was right up her alley! We really did not know what to expect, but it was awesome.

We had an amazing campsite! And loved exploring!! PS that water is COLD.

Split Rock is incredible.

Sand lovers.

Super cool Quarry with tons of fossils!

Wall of fossils!

Unimpressed….with me holding her still.

Pre-dinner hike turned nap?

With a side of campfire and lite beer. 😉

A brisk morning on Saturday started off with more sand play. These guys cant get enough!

We packed up camp and moved on to the desert landscape of McCoy Flats in Vernal, Utah.

Brooke was the first on her bike at camp…and also, the first on the ground. Stuck. Haha.

Recovering from the sand party 😉

Mud pies for EVERYONE!!

Ken went out for a mountain bike ride and I followed after for an hour…and then sent him out for a second hour.

Classy trailer mirror pic, anyone?

We headed into town to try a restaurant that someone recommended to Ken. It was unfortunately closed, but we hit up Cafe Rio (my first time!) and it was amazing!!

So was the sunset 😉

Sunday morning was supposed to see Ken head out for a ride. Unfortunately, a part of his bike had broken and he was out of luck. I felt a bit guilty as I headed out for a 2 hour ride. Thanks for cleaning up all of camp, Ken 🙂

It was brisk, but GORGEOUS!

While I was out, Ken, Brooke and Jasper hiked the mountain next to camp!

After a quick shower and clothing change, we were loaded up and headed home (with a random stop at a park for Brooke to play)!

Made it home in time for Ken to get in a ride on a different bike before enjoying a quick dip in the hot tub followed by some quality fire time!!

What a wonderful weekend getaway….though it is always nice to be home!

Now we are just recovering and cleaning up the trailer. It is COLD here today, so inside it is! Brooke is excited to go Trick or Treating tomorrow. Hopefully it doesnt snow 😉

My First Trip to Moab

This past weekend, I experience something for the first time: Moab. And WOW, it did NOT disappoint!

On Thursday, after work, K, B, J and I picked up Errin and Colin on our way towards Utah. We were headed to the land of mountain bike mecca and only Ken had been before. The RV was loaded with bikes, drinks and some amazing food and was ready for some adventure. We stopped around 8:30 in Grand Junction for the night after having a delicious dinner in Vail and had a {less than stellar} night of sleep before finishing the journey.

Friday morning, we had some breakfast and then continued the trip to Moab. Every part of the drive was gorgeous. Some seriously neat terrain out there! Once we made it, we unpacked the RV before having some lunch. Errin and Colin set off on a 2 hour ride, Ken went out on his bike and I tried to {unsuccessfully} get Brooke to take a nap. Ha. Around 2, R and R (Ken’s parents) made their way into camp. When they got a bit settled, Ken and I took advantage of some babysitting and headed off for a ride. Disclaimer: I am NOT a natural mountain biker. Rocks terrify the crap out of me, cliffs=death in my eyes and my bike is pretty stinking heavy.

The ride was, eh, scary. Ken took me to rock, cliffs and everything else that makes my heart race. Well, that is what Moab is all about! I did “okay”. Personally, I had a blast because I felt myself getting better through the ride…but I could tell that Ken was less than impressed with my abilities and {lack of} speed. The rest of the evening was spent eating and hanging out and enjoying a warm fire.

On Saturday, R and R loaded up their jeep with Brooke and Jasper while K, E, C and I hopped on our bikes. We did about a 20 mile ride on dirt roads to this insane area of cliffs. No pics for me as I was terrified the whole time and just tried to keep J and B away from the edge.

Once back at camp, I took advantage of the “slickrock” that we were camped next to and practiced my skills. BTW, slickrock=tons of traction! Who knew?! I felt more and more comfortable.

Sunday brought a nice long ride through what seems like endless sand! We were all over the road trying to keep it upright, but it was so fun! R, R, B and J drove out and met us with the Jeep at an amazing tunnel! We explored, ate some lunch and played around on the rocks before making the journey back through the sand to camp.

On Monday, we planned a two hour ride before packing up and heading for home. Pretty sure that Ken thought it would be about 2.5-3 hours because I was joining the ride and I dont blame him! I wondered the same thing!

Ken and Colin went out in front and we had areas that we were going to meet up with them. Errin was kind enough to ride with me. I dont know if it was because I was less nervous with her or all of the practice I had been doing on the rocks, but I totally didnt suck!?! I was able to ride A LOT of things that I wouldnt have in the past and thoroughly enjoyed the trail! Even after I found out that it was intermediate/advanced! It was a BLAST!!! And we made it back in UNDER 2 hours!

The problem is…now I want to go ride my mountain bike all the time! Haha! Singletrack, I am coming for you in the spring!

I also learned how to ride Ken’s dirt bike on this trip…and kind of fell in love with that too…good thing it is too big for me to ride alone. Stinking short legs 😉

It was an epic trip and we cannot wait to go back! Dont be surprised if you see me jumping into some beginner mtn bike races next year 🙂
