Still Snow Season and Ken’s First LandRun

Well, the weather has continued to be pretty uni-colored so far, but we have some sunshine today! Woohoo!!! We have missed that blue sky, lately!

Colorado got some of that Bomb-cyclone weather, but up here it was really just a normal storm. Sure, it snowed and the wind blew-but what’s new this year!?

When you spend 2 hours moving snow, it helps to be prepared. And warm.

Ken was able to sneak away last Thursday (on our anniversary-ha) to go to a bike race in Oklahoma with his business partners/teammates. Any time he is gone, Brooke begs to make zucchini noodles.

We spent some quality time playing outside when the sun came out!

Treated ourselves to some donuts. Not sure what the confused face is for. You eat it, kid.

IMG_8904

Went to the pool…and took a picture with the snow in the parking lot. Yep, it’s a lot.

IMG_8908

Since everything outside is still so white, we decided to liven up the kitchen. Feels a bit Spring-ish!

IMG_8910

The other houseplants are a bit out of control. This guy is to Brooke’s head level-and comes from the loft above!

IMG_8911

Random wedding picture for our 10th anniversary!

IMG_8923

Brooke loves her a good puzzle. She did a solo 100 piece!

IMG_8929

I was the queen and had to grant my subjects their wishes. mhmmmm perfectly normal.

IMG_8934

Brooke and I went on a lunch date while Ken was traveling. Cutest date ever.

IMG_8945

IMG_8947

Back to Ken’s travels….

Made him some rice cakes and energy bars for the race.

IMG_8918

He found his “Good Luck” treat the night before. Perfect.

IMG_8952

We followed along via whatever social media we could find.

IMG_8963

I rode the trainer while Brooke worked out and we stalked Ken’s race.

IMG_8966

Ken called me when he was done and told me he was 9th!! Top 10 with a huge field of pro cyclists. Couldn’t be more proud!

That hair, tho.

IMG_8968

Amy took 3rd for the women and Mark came in 3rd in his Age Group. What a weekend!

IMG_8969

Meanwhile, Brooke and I continued our snow play. That’s a fence post. Guessing about 4 feet high. Yep, that’s me standing on top of it.

IMG_8975

Quality Momming. Ha. This stuff is delicious!!

IMG_8982

Quick pic of Brooke’s incredible hair.

IMG_8983

And her moves. Ha.

IMG_8996

Yesterday, she just HAD to play outside in 13 degrees. In her bathrobe.

IMG_8998

She launched some animals down the yard in a sled and had to go rescue them.

IMG_9002

Another snap from Ken’s race. They all stopped for the picture.

IMG_9013

And, because-HOPE….we see the ground today! (Note: snow in the forecast for 3 days starting Friday-ha).

Fly by February

Hey there! How’s your February been? As a huge contradiction to the January that seemed to go on FOREVER….February has absolutely flown by.  I threw pictures on here on February 11th. Clearly that went well 😉

Things have been going well. Pulled in a bunch of different directions at the moment, but trying to manage it with some form of normalcy.

Just over here making grabbers…Thanks, KiwiCo for the fun boxes that make Brooke’s day! (not sponsored-just really enjoy them!).

She moved up an age group and enjoyed the new challenge. Me too 😉

Two weekends ago, we went down to Fort Collins for a shopping trip and a bike race. Ken is building out his trailer for his new business venture so we spent a solid 3 hours at Home Depot.

But seriously, thank goodness I always bring food.

IMG_8581

On Sunday, Ken raced the Old Man Winter Rally in Lyons. It was incredibly cold at the start and I felt very lucky that Brooke and Jasper got to hang out with Errin and Colin.

While Ken was out racing, I drove up the canyon and ran 10.5 miles on the course so I got to see him twice! The first time he was with a group and then 1.5ish hours later, he and his buddy were off the front!

IMG_8592

I even made it back to the finish in time for him to roll through. He lost the sprint to his buddy (who he has been racing against for about 8 years-and who is 10 years younger than him), but he was thrilled with how the race went and excited about his fitness.

Technically, there were supposed to be timed segments but their system did not work. Had it worked, Ken would have taken the win (note: this fact was brought up my the friend that beat him). But Ken is very humble and took it in stride and was just as happy for his friend. That’s what I love about him 😉

We enjoyed most of last week hanging out and embracing the snowstorms. We did a TON of baking (and, er, eating).

IMG_8617

IMG_8618

My plant turned 1 year old. It is doing amazingly well and I feel like I should win some sort of prize. Normally, I kill them.

IMG_8620

Valentine’s day brownies…

IMG_8621

Brooke and I took advantage of the midweek powder day 🙂

IMG_8626

She now skis powder and trees.

IMG_8630

She was sent some sweet Valentine’s Day gifts. I think Dinosaur is her love language!

My workouts have been pretty killer and this is what I looked like last Thursday BEFORE I ran. Joys of double days with skiing in the middle! ha!

IMG_8636

On Friday, we went out. I know, pick your jaw up off the floor. We are such homebodies, but we figured Brooke would enjoy the hot air balloons! It took her a bit to warm up to them, but once she did-she loved them! They were pretty awesome up close, though I have no desire to go up in one!

This week has been pretty busy with work, but we have managed to fit in some fun.

IMG_8655

IMG_8680

We are actually dog and horse sitting this week for our neighbors. He looks adorable, right?

IMG_8682

He is. He is even cuter now that we are working on the whole listening thing.

Not as cute: firewood destruction.

IMG_8683

And today we ventured into the world of Papier Mache.

IMG_8694

Ken is at a fat bike race this evening. Since the predicted temp is 8 degrees, we opted out of the cheering section. 😉 We will cheer from the 75 degree house!

And there you have it! Hard to believe that February ends next week?! Say what?!

Fall Pictures and Race Plans

Hi there and happy Friday (night)!!

Two posts in one week! Dream big!

This post is mainly for my family who is excited to see Brooke’s Fall pictures….so if looking at a cute kid isn’t your thing…I will see you next week!

Since I am going to actually start training again, I thought it would be fun to start trying to get my workouts written down for each week.

Not really training for anything this Fall/Winter, but so far my plans next year include:

May- Belgian Wafer Ride: 68 mixed surface race on the bike-I am opting for the half since I didnt ride my bike this year. (Ken will be doing the full 140 mile race)

July-Crusher in the Tushar: 70 mile road/gravel race with a lot of climbing.

September-Run Rabbit Run: 50 mile trail running race.

Lots of moderately paced, long workouts in my future with a LOT of climbing….and so it begins! Since I barely rode or ran this Summer, there will be a lot of easy building this Fall and Winter so that I can start some actual efforts in the Spring.

Monday: 7 mile run @ 8:26 pace/ weights

Tuesday: 2 x 3 mile runs 1) 8:47 2) 9:27 paces

Wednesday: 3 miles 8:54 with 1.5 around threshold./ weights

Thursday: 45 minute spin am, 4 miles 8:40 ish pace

Friday: 3 miles easy ~9:00 pace/weights

Total: 23 miles

Aiming to get 6-7 this weeked to make it to 30 miles for the week.

And now for pictures….

Until next time!
