Fat Bikes and Big Training

Happy Hump Day, Everyone! Already through half the week! You’ve got this!

We have been having a jolly good time over here enjoying Winter….starting to get a little antsy to see some green, but the amount of snow says that will be a while!

Things have been busy, as is normally the case, but there has been plenty of fun had as well.

Homeschooling is going great. I love that we do a lot of it in bed with pajamas on. All the stuffies think it is great too!

We all make sure to enjoy the views 😉

IMG_8458

Just working on those letters!

IMG_8464

Made sure to get some home school P.E. in last week and hit the mountain for a bit.

IMG_8467

Science is going well….we even transplanted it to dirt and it is living its best plant life!

IMG_8480

Makes it all worth it (rosy cheeks courtesy of playing in the snow).

On Saturday, Ken had a fat bike race. Ken headed up around 6:20 am and I rode the trainer for 2 hours before Brooke and I made our way up North. We hiked out on the course a bit and enjoyed the waiting game! It was a well worth it and the two kids had a blast playing in the snow.

The conditions were good (for snow biking) but still heavy and hard.

He finished second overall in around 4 hours and 28 minutes for 45+miles. Wowza!

It may be the most wrecked I have ever seen him after a race too. It was clearly very hard!

Luckily, the race was close, so we came home, sat in the hot tub, he took a nap(ish), I worked a bit and then we got dressed and headed back up for the Awards at 6.

Someone made sure to look extra nice 😉

IMG_8523

They played Rock Paper Scissors to see who got to pick prizes first! Ken beat her and Brooke was more impressed with that than his bike performance! ha!

IMG_8526

Camp chair for the win!

IMG_8530

Sunday we went to church and hung around the house for the rest of the day. I rode the trainer for another 2 hours and we cleaned out a file cabinet. It was riveting!

This week it is back to the normals. Brooke practiced some photography work.

Great group shot.

IMG_8546

And then she helped with laundry.

IMG_8548

I am taking a cycling class in town on Tues and Thurs mornings for the month of February (mainly because my friend Amy is teaching it). Early wake ups for the 7:15 class, but it works for Ken to drop Brooke off to me and then we swim!

I was right with Jasper when he was begging to go to bed at 8:45.

IMG_8550

Current obsessions whilst trying to keep my body in one piece…thanks, Costco.

IMG_8554

And on a random note, our vine is out of control.

IMG_8556

Current condition: blizzard.

IMG_8557

And that’s that!

Just working away on all the things.

All the Snow and Weekly Training

Howdy! How goes it?? How has your start to 2019 been? Any special goals this year?

We have a lot of things being juggled right now, but overall things are going well! Ken and I are diving head first into endurance training/fitness this year. I pretty much took last year off from competition and I am more than ready to jump back in this year! Ken is signed up for a couple races in the next few weeks and we are excited to get into the swing of things.

First things first…Jasper is obsessed with his Alpaca. Seriously, the thing ends up everywhere!!??

img_8362

We have been getting hammered with snow this winter. As in, running out of places to put it! It is only January and we have far exceeded the total from last year. Sometimes it gets a bit windy too…

img_8364

Good thing Ken is tall so he doesnt get lost in the snow banks!

img_8367

To give you an idea…this was last week and it has snowed at least 18 more inches (probably more). Ken’s bike is also an extra Large. That’s a lot of snow.

img_8377

My sweet sister, Alle, got me the Run Fast, Cook Fast, Eat Slow cookbook for my birthday and I have been having a blast trying a ton of new recipes! So many delicious and healthy things to eat. This week, I made one of the smoothies from the book. Brooke was not impressed with the green color (kale), so I got to finish that one off myself. It was delicious!

img_8380

Lots of snow playtime=lots of Vizsla naptime.

img_8383

One day, we got so much snow that our neighbor decided that his equipment was better suited for the quantity. I didn’t complain about the help!

img_8385

Seriously, though.

img_8386

My kid is the biggest snow fan…she is stoked on all of the snow we have!

img_8387

img_8395

Jasper is unsure. Hahaha. He loves the snow, but going just about anywhere in the yard is a challenge!

img_8396

Tired of snow pics yet? This has been life for the past few weeks!

img_8399

We did make a trip to Costco last weekend. It is right next to the Vail airport. This bad boy flew over our heads as we were heading in. So loud!

img_8411

Brooke dressed up as an astronaut and headed to space with her cat…made sure to take her microscope too 😉

img_8422

We had a home school group activity this week and headed to Stagecoach for some ice fishing. We lasted about 1.5 hours and then decided we needed hot chocolate. A few of the kids caught fish and it was so much fun! (Have I mentioned that I LOVE home schooling her!?!)

img_8429

img_8432

Then we got more snow. aaaaaaah!!!

img_8438

Ken got in his 4 hour ride yesterday with his buddy while I stayed home and rode the trainer. Today, it was my turn to get out. Gorgeous! 19 miles in 2 hours and only one crash (ice is slippery). Wonderful weekend!

img_8452

img_8453

That’s what we have been up to! Just enjoying all the winter things!
