Fall Pictures and Race Plans

Hi there and happy Friday (night)!!

Two posts in one week! Dream big!

This post is mainly for my family who is excited to see Brooke’s Fall pictures….so if looking at a cute kid isn’t your thing…I will see you next week!

Since I am going to actually start training again, I thought it would be fun to start trying to get my workouts written down for each week.

Not really training for anything this Fall/Winter, but so far my plans next year include:

May- Belgian Wafer Ride: 68 mixed surface race on the bike-I am opting for the half since I didnt ride my bike this year. (Ken will be doing the full 140 mile race)

July-Crusher in the Tushar: 70 mile road/gravel race with a lot of climbing.

September-Run Rabbit Run: 50 mile trail running race.

Lots of moderately paced, long workouts in my future with a LOT of climbing….and so it begins! Since I barely rode or ran this Summer, there will be a lot of easy building this Fall and Winter so that I can start some actual efforts in the Spring.

Monday: 7 mile run @ 8:26 pace/ weights

Tuesday: 2 x 3 mile runs 1) 8:47 2) 9:27 paces

Wednesday: 3 miles 8:54 with 1.5 around threshold./ weights

Thursday: 45 minute spin am, 4 miles 8:40 ish pace

Friday: 3 miles easy ~9:00 pace/weights

Total: 23 miles

Aiming to get 6-7 this weeked to make it to 30 miles for the week.

And now for pictures….

A Photo Shoot, Swim Lesson, Trip to the Park, Long Walk and the (dun dun dun) Dentist!

Fri_YAY!!!!! It’s finally here!!! Woohoo!!! Here’s to prepping for the weekend 🙂

But first…yesterday!

Thursday was a BUSY day. I am pretty sure that I am still exhausted from our endeavors.

To begin the day, I headed to the basement for a super easy ride. I was down there by about 7:45 because I knew that it would be the only time I had during the day to make it happen. It was a nice and short 45 minute spin (that or nothing!).

IMG_3450

Always good when your battery starts getting low. Now, if only I could actually remember to change that today!

IMG_3451

As soon as I was done with my spin, it was a whirlwind of getting dressed, getting Brooke dressed and her hair done and then getting all of our stuff together before setting out for the day. I knew it was going to be a long one and we had a lot of different things to pack for!

We left the house around 9:30 and headed to one of our favorite trails just outside of town. Fall photo shoots are just the best and even though the snow last weekend did a number on our trees up here, it was still pretty. Brooke enjoyed playing in the leaves and creek and I took about 280 pictures in the hopes of having about 10 that are awesome 😉 Thank GOODNESS for digital!

Sneak peek!!

From our photo shoot, we headed straight to the pool for Brooke’s last swim lesson of the session. Getting changed is always exciting.

IMG_3457

As is figuring out which sunscreen still has something left in it. Clearly it is the end of the summer.

IMG_3459

For some reason, none of the other kids were at the lesson today, so Brooke had her own one-on-one session! No complaints about that! I enjoyed a half mile warm up on the treadmill and then some solid arm/back/core work.

After jumping in the pool with B for about 20 minutes, we were both starving and headed to Natural Grocers for a couple things and a sandwich to split. Since we were killing some time, we visited the park for a while for Brooke to climb around.

Pretty excited about the 70 degree tank top weather.

IMG_3467

After a quick stop at Wal to the Mart, we went to see if we could rent skis for the season yet. Turns out we have to wait until after the 13th. No problem! Brooke found a pile of leaves and HAD to jump in it.

IMG_3470

We had about an hour until my dentist appointment, so I convinced Brooke that we needed to go for a walk to the “boardwalk”. I thought it was about 10 minutes away…it may have been a bit longer. She wasn’t impressed and I ended up carrying her all the way back. It was some quality cuddle time, but my arms were TIRED when we got back!

IMG_3472

Man, this place we call home is AWESOME!

Dramatic much?

We eventually made it back and walked over to the dentist’s office. They had thought it would take 1-1.5 hours, but apparently, I am an easy fix and they were done in 40 minutes! Brooke was spectacular. We really had no idea that she was even in the room. We took at game and they had a Mr. Potato Head and the girl was set. Everyone commented on how great she was. Proud Mommy.

Dont mind me….just cant feel my face. Ugh.

IMG_3488

Any day that Brooke has a package in the mail box is a good day in her book. Thanks, Alle for the sweet books. We read about the puppy last night 😉

IMG_3490

Ken got out for a ride when he got home while I made dinner and B took a bath. Then it was time for some eating, some teeth brushing and hitting the pillow! Girl was OUT.

Pretty excited for a quieter day today. Have to find some time to ride (Ken switched my bike to single speed, so no trainer and no trailer). Better get creative!

I hope you have a wonderful day. Just think….tomorrow is Saturday….tomorrow is Saturday….. 😉

Wednesday Wanderings

Tomorrow is Friday. Happy dance!!

What is going on today? Big Thursday plans? Workout?? Easy day?? Soft pedal spin for me over here which I am incredibly thankful for after yesterday’s workout!

Wednesday started with the alarm going off at 5:30 and Ken asking if I wanted to bail and workout later. I never turn down an extra 45 minutes of laying in bed! When I finally rolled out from under the covers, it was time to get breakfast ready, pack Ken’s lunch and start the day.

First up…School time!

IMG_0243

Since Brooke is more of a kinetic learner, I try to mix things up when we are doing the generic subjects. Today we were working on the letter D. I got out some Kosher salt and poured it into a cake pan and let her use her finger to practice the letters and numbers that we have done so far. It was a big hit!

She wanted to play dinosaurs in the mud, so we made our favorite mess (cornstarch and water) and she went to town on giving the dinos “mud baths”. How can I get in on that action??

While she was destroying the dining table, I threw together some chocolate pudding. Hey, I had the cornstarch out already 😉

IMG_0244

It went well….until I poured sugar all over my stove top. That is a fun clean up, said no one ever.

IMG_0249

I even managed to get everything in the slow cooker for Chicken Tortilla Soup. I LOVE when I have my stuff together and get dinner rolling early. Makes the evening so much more relaxing!

IMG_0250

Around 11, I ventured down into the basement for my workout while Brooke used some watercolors to paint the dinosaurs. Thank goodness for things that wash off!

I spent an hour doing some interval work and becoming an absolute sweaty mess. Super attractive. You are welcome. Legs were still a bit sluggish, but better than yesterday.

IMG_3443

After a quick lunch, Brooke, Jasper and I went for a walk down to check the mailbox. After the snow that we had last weekend, it was REALLY nice to play in some sunshine today!

IMG_0251

She opted to ride her Strider.

IMG_0252

IMG_0254

The first of two snakes that we saw.

IMG_0257

Must check out everything…it might be a grasshopper.

IMG_0259

IMG_0260

Some day I will put on some make up and look presentable….not today!

IMG_0261

At least I take pretty pictures of scenery. That counts, right? Beaver…you home?

IMG_0267

The trees are poppin’!

IMG_0268

Snake number two! It was warm in the sun, but these guys were not moving very quickly.

IMG_0269

IMG_0273

We stopped on the way home to collect leaves so Brooke could “craft” with them.

IMG_0275

Took some time to paint our nails on the porch. She went with the green sparkles.

IMG_3445

The rest of the afternoon included organizing my bike drawers/closet (so that I dont have a panic attack getting ready for the first race) and then completely organizing/cleaning out/getting rid of things that are no longer age appropriate in Brooke’s closet. I was completely exhausted by the time we finished. Brooke does NOT like to part with things, so it was a huge blessing that she was willing to let me pull out some of those 18 month old toys. Geesh!

Thank goodness that dinner was already made! All I had to do was shred some cheese, cut an avocado and dish our bowls! (Ken was supposed to ride in town, but forgot his helmet so he rode from home and got home just in time to eat!).

And those were our hump day happenings!!

Thursday plans include: Brooke’s last swim lesson/my last gym workout, possible Fall pictures or yoga at the library, a trip to the dentist (boo) and who knows what other surprises! Hope that you have a beautiful day!

Anyone thinking about weekend plans already? Cutting Friday short? Squeezing in a bit more “summertime” fun before winter rolls around?
