Training time and a SS Win for the Husband!

Howdy folks! How’s it hanging? We are still a little under the weather over here, but digging our way out!

Because Brooke was still icky sickie over the weekend, Ken headed down to Boulder solo on Friday night to get a topper on the truck and then race on Saturday. We were super sad to miss it, but we try not to share the germs with our friends 😉

On Friday, I hit up the trainer for an hour. It was nice and sweaty.

Jasper felt that the morning was better spent in front of the warm stove.

Post workout, Brooke convinced me that we NEEDED to carve her pumpkin.

She was pretty excited (and then grossed out) by the insides.

She felt the need to decorate it with a sticker as well!

Super quality pic of our cuddle time. Missing Dad!!

On Saturday, we spent the morning making slime. One of Brooke’s favorite things!

There were some issues with the online course I teach, so there was a lot of time answering students and working with tech support during the day.

We had a nice little blizzard come in from out of nowhere.

While Ken was racing, I hopped on the trainer so I could ride at the same time as him 😉

My awesome SIL sent be play by play updates on his race! And pictures! (Please note the difference in weather)

It came down to a bike throw at the end and Ken walked away with the W. Sooo sad to miss the race, but so happy to feel like I was there 😉

Post race, Ken headed back home. We were all pretty excited to see him!

He brought Brooke a remote control car and she LOVES it. Jasper on the other hand….glued to my side if it is out!

He brought me treats too!

Sunday morning started off with some pumpkin waffles and whipped cream. Wanna guess what Brooke was playing with?? Terrified of that car! PS the computer is not typically on the dining table, but there was a Cyclocross race on that we were watching.

We spent the day working around the yard/house. Ken installed lights on the front of the shop. Photo coming soon. He let me sneak out for an almost 2 hour ride OUTSIDE which was amazing!!!

It was a nice low key day that included the hot tub…because, why not?!

Monday morning started out early for Ken as he had a 4 day hunting tag and was hoping to get an elk. I know that some people will cringe, but the elk will feed our family for much of the winter and he set out with that in mind, he didn’t head out for the thrill of it.

He managed to get one just up behind our neighbor’s house. The herd made him work for it, for sure. He spent the day working on that endeavor while Brooke and I played around the house.

I took the day as a rest day and enjoyed just relaxing (mixed with chores). Brooke got a special present. Thanks, Mom….giant horse!! They are new besties!

Another dip in the hot tub ended our evening on a great note!

Today has been a little more mellow than yesterday morning. Ken headed into work and we spent the morning doing Highlights sticker searches.

Apparently, she was distraught over not being able to find this one.

We are babysitting the neighbor’s Golden today. Lots of entertainment for sure!!

Now it is time to hit up the chores list and see how the day pans out. Lots of grading to look forward to this evening 😉

Hope you have had a lovely start to the week!!

First Race of the Season (for us)

Hi there and happy Monday! Did you have a nice weekend?? Do anything fun and exciting?

Our weekend was a bit of a whirlwind…so let’s take it back to Friday….

I had good intentions of getting a post together on Friday, but there was just too much going on to sit down.

Started the day with some cuddles from my favorite girl.

Did some school work while sipping on some much needed coffee! I have to leave the lid off of this mug or I end up burning my tongue. Every.time.

Worked on some crafting…

I have been running my new diffuser with Thieves in it. It smells like Fall (hello, cinnamon!) and I LOVE it!!

Had some fun playing dinosaurs in front of the fire! It was pretty chilly on Friday and we actually saw sprinkles of snow.

Spent a lot of the day prepping for our trip on Saturday. With plans to leave the house at 5:15 am, I wanted everything as ready as it could be.

Frittata much?

I played around on my bike just before lunch to get the legs loosened up for Saturday’s race, it only snowed on me a little. Ken had converted my bike to single speed for the race and it was interesting (no trainer and no trailer) to go up and down the street and play in the yard while trying to open the legs up a bit.

In the evening, Ken and I loaded up the truck and went to bed as early as we could in anticipation of our 4:45 alarm.

Saturday morning started dark and early. Ugh! Had we not pre-registered I totally would have bailed and gone back to bed. When I woke Brooke up, her reaction was “YESSSS”. She was just a little excited to go see her friends. We had hoped she would fall back to sleep in the car. No luck.

Town was pretty quiet!

And sunrise was incredible!

Yes, I really needed a coffee IV.

We made it just in time for me to get my number and almost a full lap on the course. It was a really fun course (albeit a shock to the system!). Cross is full gas for about 40 minutes and it HURTS! Wowza! I ended up in 5th place and was pretty content with how the first race of the season went for me. (This is my…oh my goodness, keep it upright…face)

After changing into regular clothes and eating some lunch, Brooke was ready to go for her Pre-Junior race. She did great through the tough grass. I think I was more tired from helping her than my own race.

Just hanging waiting for Dad’s race! She had so much run riding her bike around and playing with her friends.

Ken went down early on in his race but was able to work his way up from a fourth row start. That is a lot of passing! He ended up in 12th in the Pro field. Not too shabby for the start of the season!

Once Ken was done and we had said our goodbyes, we made a quick(ish) trip to Costco and headed home. We got home around 9, put Brooke in bed and sat in the hot tub for a bit. That felt really good on Ken’s fresh abrasion 😉

Sunday morning we woke up and took our time getting ready for Church. Once we were home, it was pretty much a day spent cleaning up the house and prepping dinner for company that evening. Ken sold our Santa Fe and then got the trailer into the shop before the snow hit.

I was able to get out for a quick 3 mile run before getting dinner in the oven. The wind was pretty brutal with the storm rolling in and my legs were quite tired from the race the day before, but it was so good to get out!.

We had a lovely evening entertaining before watching Tour de Pharmacy (hilarious) and then heading to bed! What a fun (and exhausting) weekend!

Cant wait to do it all again next weekend…with an extended stay on the Front Range 😉

Cross is Here

Cyclocross season has officially made its way into our house. Last weekend, Ken raced the first kickoff race of the season. It wasnt exactly in my beginner’s ability range, so I took the weekend off and used it for some good training rides! I mean, when you can have views like this, you are okay with not racing for the day!

It was exceptionally hot last weekend…95+ degrees and no cloud cover. I was pretty excited to be sitting out that race! Brooke and I did our best to spray Ken with cold water every time he went by to help him cool off. He ended up in 6th with some excellent competition so we are going to call it a great start to the season.

This girl did some awesome cheering!

The past week has been a lot of training and also a lot of recovering. Took Monday, Thursday and Friday off the bike (Friday due to weather) and then had bike workouts on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Friday morning, my sister-in-law and I braved the 5:15 am alarm for some awesome hot yoga at YogaPod. It was an excellent start to the day and weekend!

This morning, she and I went for a pretty decent tempo ride for an hour before meeting our team for some practice on a grassy course for another hour and then rode the 25 minutes home. My lovely hubby and kiddo met us their and Brooke played with a friend while we worked on our skills. It was encouraging seeing my improvement in riding things that scare me from last year. Seriously exhausted now! Got some new running shoes in the mail yesterday, so we may have to squeeze a jog in this afternoon with the B.O.B!

Hope you are having an active and awesome weekend!
