States and all the Errands!!

Hi All! How is it going?? Sorry, just popping in after our weekend and a couple of busy days in town! I had all intentions of writing last night, but the husband convinced me to go in the hot tub instead. Tough choices (it was clear and super dark and the stars were insane! We saw a good 25+shooting stars…it was amazing!).

How about a quick recap of the weekend??

On Friday, we headed to Denver to get some errands done since we were going to be down there. Stopped at Costco and then made our way over to have a window on our truck topper changed (it had come with the wrong one and they just had to swap it).

Luckily, Brooke, Jasper and I got to hang out while they did it….and watch a movie.

IMG_4290

The traffic was kind of crazy and made for a long day!

IMG_4291

Once done with the topper, we picked up some winter tires before heading North to Fort Collins. TRRRAAFFFFFFFFFIIIIICCCCCC. We are not used to traffic. Not sure if that made it better or worse.

Errin had a delicious Shepard’s pie ready when we got there, so we all ate and then hit the hay!

Colin and Errin had to say goodbye to their sweet kitty a little bit ago and had this cutie for Brooke to snuggle with. She will not let it out of her sight.

IMG_4292

The rest of Saturday was race filled! Colin and Errin headed down to the races early for Colin’s race. Ken had to switch our bikes to single speed (he was planning to race Sunday, but there was a huge draw to racing Saturday and having a relaxed Sunday!!). Once he was done, we loaded up and headed to States!

Since Ken, Errin and I all raced at the same time (?!?!!) Colin was kind enough to keep an eye on Brooke. I LOVED the course. It was super hard, but at the same time not very technical. My love language!! Lots of grass and lots of power and only 1 gear. Perfect.

I had a bit of a slow start, but was able to pass several girls pretty early on and then stayed solidly in 4th for the rest of the race. Errin took 3rd (it was an open field and the 3 ladies in front of me (her included!) were elite level racers!! I was pretty happy with my finish, but even happier that I had a blast!! Ken lapped me during the race and it was pretty fun to see him out there. Ken ended up winning his race 😉

Errin in 3rd!

Ken in first!!

IMG_0063

After the race, we said a quick goodbye to Ken. He was heading to a friend’s going away party while we headed back North. Errin and Colin quickly changed into black-tie appropriate clothing to head to Colin’s work Christmas party (quite the change from spandex 😉 ).

Brooke was exhausted and went to bed…meanwhile, I changed into pajamas and went to town on dessert and cheesy Christmas movies!

IMG_4298

Everyone was home by 11 and we all crashed into bed!

A leisurely morning was pretty much perfect as we watched the Euros race some cross before heading to Vern’s for breakfast. The biscuits and gravy were everything I could have hoped for! We said our goodbyes to E and C and headed homeward!!

There is just something about popping over Rabbit Ears Pass into the Valley. Absolutely feels like home!

IMG_4301

Enjoyed an afternoon at home before busting this guy open!

IMG_4303

When Monday morning rolled around, we were all on the go. Brooke and I headed into town and ran some errands before heading to Stagecoach. We got connected with the local home school group and they had an activity for the day! They were supposed to do snow forts (but there was not enough snow!) and fire. At least the fire part went well! And then they spent an hour playing in what snow was available! Brooke loved it!

IMG_4305

IMG_4310

Spent the rest of the day running errands and we were both exhausted when we got home after 3.

Jasper spent the evening like this…so rough. While I worked on Ken’s legs.

IMG_4315

Yesterday, we headed back into town for Brooke’s last swim lesson!

We sooooo need snow!!

IMG_4319

Her sweet swim buddy had a Christmas present for her. Cutest jammies ever!

IMG_4321

Did a few more errands before heading home for lunch!

Since it was my last time in the gym for a bit, I went to TOWN on the weights. My legs were jello when we left….but Jasper DESPERATELY needed to go for a run, so I laced up my shoes and we did 3 miles.

I started with a jacket, but quickly pulled it and was in tights, a tank top and these gloves.

IMG_4322

The rest of the day was super exciting with lots of cleaning. Ugh.

This morning is chilly and cloudy. Perfect day to get things done and catch up around the house. Hoping to get a 2 mile jog in later and some STRETCHING.

IMG_4327

Hope you are having a good week. Can’t believe how close we are getting to Christmas…better get on those cards!

Black Eyes and My Dog Wears My Clothes

Happiest of Mondays to you. Did you have a nice weekend? Do anything fun? Spend time relaxing?

We were on the go for most of the weekend and are currently in recovery mode over here.

On Friday, Ken and I were up early again to ride for an hour in the basement. It was an hour of base riding for me.

Came upstairs and the only convenient pants to throw on were Ken’s shorts. Keeping it classy 😉

IMG_3926

A little later in the morning, I looked out the window to see that our neighbor’s llamas had escaped. Ken contacted him and he wasnt concerned. A few hours later, they went right home!

Brooke got to work decorating Jasper. Seriously, the dog’s patience exceeds my own.

IMG_3924

Then she decorated herself. I’ve got nothing.

IMG_3932

Spent the afternoon cleaning up the house. Riveting Friday over here!

On Saturday, we were all up pretty early. I headed out for an hour ride (in 23 degrees). I wore all.the.clothes. Everything was warm except my toes!

Got home and took a quick shower before loading up the truck to head to Fort Collins. Brooke made sure to pack her movies 😉 That dog! Sweetest.

IMG_3934

This is my “I just rode for an hour in the freezing cold and am finally warming up” face. Complete with forehead wrinkles 😉

IMG_3938

It was a gorgeous and uneventful drive. Part of the drive involved some snow over the pass.

IMG_3940

Made it to the venue with plenty of time for Ken to pre-ride and warm up before his race. Cross of the North is one of the most popular race weekends in Colorado and the venue didn’t disappoint.

The wind kicked up during Ken’s race and Jasper got a bit cold. He went ahead and wore my vest. Dont worry, he made sure to pee on it later 😉

IMG_3945

The competition was stiff in the Open race, but this guy did a great job chasing around the course.

IMG_3954

Post-race, we warmed up in the truck on the way to Errin and Colin’s house. Errin had a magical enchilada dinner for us. Seriously, delicious.

Per usual, I struggled to sleep somewhere other than my bed. I left Ken’s snoring around midnight and climbed into bed with Brooke.  (He doesn’t snore at home?!?!) I still could not fall asleep and I remember looking at my phone for the last time at 3:30 am. Perfect.

Brooke was up at 5:10. Nothing like 1.5 hours of sleep to start the day. So thankful for the lifeline latte Colin whipped up and the delicious breakfast Errin made. Functioning was NOT on my list of things to do for the morning.

Because I was pre-registered for the race that day, it was time to get dressed and head to the venue. It was HARD to get on the bike. I just wanted to nap!

Had a bit of a rough warm up with some unnecessary heckling through a section of the course that I was struggling to figure out. Always a great way to go into a race.

The race itself was NOT pretty. While I thought the course was a TON of fun and I felt that I improved with each lap, I just didnt have it. At least it was a good time on a bike and gorgeous out!

Colin had a good showing in his race and Errin joined me in the “rough day” category. It happens to everyone, right?!

Brooke maybe won the weekend spending both days playing with friends in the sand.

IMG_3961

Ken was having a great start to his race until a mechanical set him back a bit and then a last lap crash threw the end of the race into a bit of physical chaos. In a fast corner, he tagged a stake with his hand and it literally threw him face (and shoulder) first into the super hard dirt. Ugh! It is always good to hear “your husband is bleeding from his mouth” at the end of the race, yeah?

Once we found him (made sure he had all his teeth) and got him checked out with the EMTs on scene, we loaded up the truck and began our trek home. I drove the first little bit of the trip while Ken iced every part of his body (and I became more confident that he did not have a concussion). We switched off driving and though I was exhausted, I felt that his head first into the ground move warranted me staying awake.

He had a lovely fat lip and a golf ball growing on his cheek. Ouch!!

We made it home (Brooke had fallen asleep at 5:30 because it was dark…almost with a chocolate shake in her hand!). Luckily, when we got home she was happy to hop in the shower with me before crawling into bed and going back to sleep! We lucked out there!

Ken was looking a bit rough this morning. He said that he needed to shave, but I told him that that he could take the day off….that would hurt! Hello, black eye!

IMG_3968

There has been a lot of this today…

IMG_3970

and some of this….

IMG_3972

And then some outdoor play and chores. I was going to go for an easy jog, but I decided that moving 8 carts of dirt to the side of the shop was plenty for me.

Looking forward to some dinner and a dip in the hot tub tonight. Some tight muscles over here!!

Hope you have a great night!

A Weekend of Racing and Sitting in a Florescent Room.

Hi there! How was your weekend? Do anything exciting?? We made the trip down to the Front Range for some fun/work.

On Friday, Brooke and I spent some time destroying the house with toys and then cleaning it up.

Girl cant get enough of her costumes.

IMG_3700

Apparently, she thought Jasper should also try out his princess skills. Poor guy.

IMG_3702

I did an hour on the bike to open up the legs for Saturday (not sure that worked. hahaha).

Brooke “made a new couch” because the current ones are not good enough?

IMG_3704

In the evening, it started to rain (hard!) and we had some cool lightning.

IMG_3705

On Saturday morning, we woke up to this….

IMG_3706

Fall is a funny season in the mountains.

We packed up and loaded the truck and headed down to the Front Range around 9. It was a beautiful and relaxing drive and we had plenty of time when we got to the course. Unfortunately, neither Ken nor I had the day that we had hoped for. I struggled just to get around the course (working on recovering from a cold) and was just happy that I managed to not get lapped (and wasnt last!). Ken suffered a few mechanical issues and people crashing into him and called the race (I mean, he went through two bikes) early on.  At least Errin won her race that day and Colin put in an awesome showing for his first race as a 3!

We loaded back up and headed to a pumpkin patch!! Somehow I took no pictures, but we had a blast just walking around! We ended up with a GIANT pumpkin, so I will snap his picture when I unload the truck.

After an evening of hanging out, we headed to bed early. Ken and I had a rough time sleeping. For me, it was the idea that I had to wake up to an alarm. Well, I was up way before it went off, so there is that. Got dressed and headed off to 10 hours of continuing education. While I was sitting in an ugly florescent room…..

FullSizeRender (44)

Errin and Colin rode to Boulder Res and Ken, Brooke and Jasper drove there. Ken raced and had a MUCH better day, finishing second!

IMG_0427

IMG_0429

IMG_0434

Errin was so sweet and sent me pictures throughout his race so I could follow along!

Yay, Ken!!

I met them all in Boulder around 5:50 for some dinner and then we headed to our respective homes! Ken made excellent time on the way home and we had Brooke showered and in bed by 10 (she fell asleep in the car at 8).

Now we are doing the Monday things and trying to recover from the craziness of the weekend! Since I sat ALL DAY yesterday, I am hoping to get in a run or ride today. Have not decided which, but it is SUPER windy. Going to see how the day plays out!

Hope you have fun things planned for the week!!!
