Fit After Little Bits

eat right..work hard..play harder

Ski, Run, Bike

It’s Monday! Everyone recovered from a weekend of playing?? In the midst of these silly colds, we managed to enjoy some quality play time over here.

On Saturday, I had a goal to get in 4 miles of running….I made it to 4 and when I got home the dog BEGGED to go out for a bit with me, so I was able to get in an extra mile for a total of 5! Bam! Then we spent the rest of the day in the hot tub….kidding. Kind of. We were able to watch the Cyclocross National Single Speed races first 😉 So fun seeing our friends on the YouTube feed!

Sunday morning, we opted to take a slow start to the day. Since we didnt want to share our germs, we decided to skip church.

Once we felt up to activity (you know…when the caffeine kicked in), we got in the truck and headed into town to go skiing. We headed to Howelsen Hill where they have free skiing on Sundays so we could play with Brooke on the magic carpet. Being outside meant that we wouldnt be in anyone’s face and spread our sniffles!

It was pretty much the perfect day to be outside.

IMG_0137

Not sure what we are doing….

IMG_0140

But seriously, though….the views!

IMG_0143

Frosty!

IMG_0144

Dressed and ready to go! Kid crushed it! It was my first time on downhill skis in about 6 years. Like riding a bike….right?

IMG_0148

My two favorites.

IMG_0151

Tongue out=focused.

IMG_0153

Cant get enough.

IMG_0157

The magic carpet may be the strangest thing I have ever experienced….

IMG_0158

Ken sent me over to do a run off the T-bar…um, I thought the magic carpet was strange. I wasn’t quite sure I was going to make it up the T-bar….it was a workout and a sketchy one at that. Only a black diamond down from there…no problem. :/ Managed to keep it upright but was happy to be back to the bunny hill. hahahaha.

Once we were all ready for some lunch, we packed up and headed home. We made it just in time to watch the U23 men and then the elite Cyclocross races!

I kind of lucked out in that there was a 30 minute break between the men’s and women’s races and I got out for my LAST 3.1 miles!! DONE and DUSTED!

IMG_4605

My body was pretty excited to get a break from running today 😉

This morning, Ken and I got up at 5:45 and rode the trainers! It had been over a month since I had been on my bike and it felt great….okay, not great…my legs are thrashed from the last 2 weeks, but it felt good to be on the bike again!

I even showered and dried my hair (well, a little bit).

IMG_4608

The day was spent cleaning up after the weekend and doing the usual Monday chores. Around noon, it was time to register the husband for the Steamboat Stinger! He will be doing the full race this year and I will be doing the race as a duo with my sister-in-law, Errin!

Errin sent me this gem….I am famous!!

IMG_4609

This was getting near the end of the trail marathon last year (the day after the full mountain bike race and I was DONE!). Super excited to make it on their website!

Check it out here… https://www.honeystinger.com/steamboat-stinger and sign up to race 😉

That’s about it for us! Cant believe the summer race season is already filling up. Excited for the fun that awaits us this year! Outside is awesome!

That Fluffy Snow!

Happy weekend! Popping in to say hello since I missed you yesterday…

The husband and I were lucky enough to end up with Brooke’s cold…thanks, kid 😉 So we are currently sneezing and sniffly and all things awesome. Blech! But alas, we will take a cold. The flu can go ahead and stay away. Maybe we will just hide out at home for the next month 😛

We woke up yesterday morning to some actual awesome snow!! FINALLY…about a foot of fluffy white goodness!!!

IMG_4583

It was like a sea of white…and we LOVE it.

Since the husband had to go to work, that left me to work on moving the snow.

Standing on a step…there should be a drop below, but the snow was all the way up to the top. Yes!

IMG_4584

The wind was blowing pretty good, so I dressed for the elements. Super sexy snow moving attire.

IMG_4588

I got about an hour and a half of plowing/blowing in before the kid insisted that I be done. I only got the quad stuck once…maybe time to put the chains on that baby.

And then you could walk and drive again!

IMG_4589

It was definitely not a perfect job, but since it was Friday I knew the husband could clean it up over the weekend (and actually, he did it when he got home!). Only took about 20 minutes and we are ready for more snow!

Brooke set up a tea party while I was outside. The kid isn’t really into baby dolls, but she sure does love her animals!

IMG_4594

I managed to get out for 3 miles….so close to that 80k! Only 8 more miles to fit in this weekend. Must.finish.now.

The run was so not pretty. I was not motivated since I was day 1 of said cold, my legs are tired. So tired. The road was a mixture of slush/mud where the plow had gone too deep and solid ice with a layer of fresh snow over the top. The wind was blowing and then snow started pelting me in the face. There were packages in the mailbox that I hadn’t expected and had to run the last half a mile with….all the excuses! BUT, I got out there and logged 3 easy miles that I am happy that I am not having to do in the next two days 🙂

Even my watch is telling me to take a break! Always good when your miles have gone up and your fitness has gone down. Really looking forward to a few days on the bike to recover from the sudden up in running miles!

IMG_4598

Have I mentioned that I am in LOVE with my Garmin Fenix. OMG. I am pretty sure that it is smarter than I am!

Post-death march (I mean run), I thought it would be fun to hop in an epsom salt bath…pulling at any string here to make it through the last few days…I got it all set up and within seconds, Brooke was naked and hopping in with me. So much much for relaxing.

It is currently lightly snowing here and I am hoping to get out in the next hour for about 4 miles. Going to see how it feels, but 4 is the goal! And then maybe a nap 😉

A couple of random Friday faves (a day late)…

My mom sent Brooke this book and it is adorable! Brooke is OBSESSED with dinosaurs and she loved it.

IMG_4596

And I am loving this…I have had it for several months, but since it has been so dry here I have finally started using it. It just feels nourishing when you put it on and has helped me make it through all of the tough outside miles. Highly recommend it!

IMG_4580

All right…time to get the weekend going! Hope you have a great one!

Skating Rink for a Yard

Hey, hey Thursday! Missed you yesterday, but we were a bit all over the place.

We are not the only thing that was all over the place yesterday. The weather was out of control. It rained a lot of the night on Tuesday…nothing like going to bed to the sound of rain at the beginning of January…in the mountains. We woke up to a bit of light snow…on top of the soggy old snow.

IMG_0124

Wet much?

IMG_0125

Brooke, Jasper and I loaded into the truck to head into town (she had ski at noon). I was on the fence about taking her since she is still getting over her cold and my mind was 100% made up to skip it when it was POURING rain on us for our whole drive in?!?! Um, no one wants to ski in RAIN. No thanks. Happy with my choice.

Instead, we hit up the grocery store for some much needed food….since I currently need to eat the whole house.

When we came out…it was absolutely hammering snow. Oh weather…whatcha doing?!

IMG_4565

The roads instantly became a crap show. Slush and slippery EVERYWHERE. Town was bad enough, but getting home on our dirt road was disgusting. I could turn the steering wheel a quarter of a turn to either side and it would not change our trajectory in the least. Perfectly safe 😉

Our driveway became an absolute disaster. Water under snow…gross.

IMG_4566

Since I had looked at the weather and knew that it would be dropping to 11degrees overnight, I had to get out and TRY to move some of it with the quad and plow. Could you imagine it freezing like that?!

I spent over an hour moving slush-way harder than moving snow! And came in to this…

IMG_4567

Well, I guess she had to stay busy somehow 😉

Ken was supposed to work late, but brought his computer home before it became more treacherous than it already was!

This morning, we took advantage of me being to tired to fight putting away toys last night and did some lego building.

IMG_0127

This guy was so impressed 😉

IMG_0129

I headed out for 4 miles of running…on a skating rink (thank goodness for spikes!!). Had to snap a pic of this though…sheets of snow/ice sliding off the shop!

IMG_0130

Looked pretty neat!

IMG_0131

The run was tough…even after taking yesterday off, my legs are pretty tired. Only 12 miles left in 4 days….I can do it…I can do it….

I legit couldnt have stayed upright without my spikes. They win the day.

IMG_4574

I was thrilled to go out 😉

IMG_4571

I must say, I got that Brooks headband about 5-6 years ago and still love it. Just the perfect amount of warmth!

Alright…time to attack my living room….and maybe take a shower 😉

Tomorrow is Friday…woohoooooo!!!!
