Catching up and Getting Ready for Weather!

Okay, who hit the fast forward button?! October. Stop it.

I literally have not idea where the last 6 weeks went. It is like they zoomed by and I am freaking out a little.

We have had a TON of things going on around here….so this is kind of a Phone Photo Drop.

Brooke has been LOVING homeschooling. Me, too. Her group met up for some fishing a couple weeks ago and it was awesome! Someone even caught a fish!! (And the crayfish were a crowd favorite as well!).

Spent some time at the park….we are in full Fall mode over here!

There was a lot of zucchini bread consumed this summer…the garden was a success!!

Unfortunately, our dry and windy conditions over the summer have seen fires pop up all over. We have been lucky with wind direction and the smoke has not been much of a problem for us.

Some pretty stellar clouds…just saying.

The wind has made for some awesome kite flying (not so great when you are trying to stain your house on an extension ladder!).

It started dropping below freezing at night so we moved our tomato plant to the shop (hanging upside down!). It just keeps giving us great tomatoes!!

Science is her favorite.

With a side of tea parties. This was my date.

She has ridden outside more than me lately.

She is not mad about it!

Officially embracing the ranch style for Church. Either that or I am aiming for Rodeo Queen next year 😉

Getting SOOOOO close to being done staining.

Spent the weekend supporting a group of cyclists pre-riding our race course for next year! The long course is about 141 miles. It was a long day on Saturday, but everyone had a BLAST! We love our cycling community!

Our forecast is trying to make up for all of the lack of water this summer!

We are taking advantage by getting our Play-doh-ing on! I love her creative mind!

I HAVE been working out! Some days it is really hard to fit it in (and then I try to get up at 5:30 to do it before Brooke is up!) but it is happening. I am not really training for anything this Fall, but have BIG plans for next year!! There will be both bike races and running races. (This summer was very house-project centered for me). I look forward to all of my bikes and a lot of trail miles on foot!

Currently, I am doing a lot more running than riding. This is mainly because of lack of time and it is faster to get in a good running workout 😉 Last week I was at 20 miles of running with a little bit of trainer time. Just working on building miles and letting my body get used to the stress again.  Aiming for a 50 mile running race next Summer….better start now 😉

Weights have also made their way into my life (now that I am done moving gravel 😉 ). I aim for 3x per week. Brooke LOVES joining me for this. I try to do them on days where I run longer or harder so that I get real “easier” days surrounding them.

Now that the weather is getting chillier and we will be inside more…(maybe!?) you should see more of me!

I promise I have more exciting things to say 😉

*Took Fall pics of Brooke (okay, maybe I am just excited about those).

*I am trying zero-drop Altra trail runners (I will let you know how I feel about it!).

*Ski season is coming!!

*In a couple of weeks we will officially launch our Summer 2019 Gravel Cycling Race! It is going to be BIG. You can find us at or like us on Instagram…SBTGRVL  (A good amount of my time is going to working on this-hence radio silence).

Hope you are having a great Fall and taking some time for some leaf peeping! We are in the peak of our change right now and it is off the charts gorgeous!!!

Until next time!

A Bike Race and a Vacation

Hi all! I have returned from falling off the face of the planet! The last couple weeks have been a whirlwind of house staining and a trip to Wyoming! Since the house staining is a never ending and not too exciting project, let’s talk more about the trip 😉

On Thursday (yeah, like way back on September 6th), we prepped to go on our trip. There was a lot of food prep! I love getting everything pre-ready so camp cooking is easy and I actually get to relax a bit. Pre-made breakfast burritos are always a favorite!

Friday, we traveled up to Lander, Wyoming and found a place to park the trailer before heading to Ken’s pre-race meeting. Brooke asked me to take her picture. Should I be worried?

Saturday was Ken’s race. It was 130 miles out in the middle of nowhere! They did not want cars on the course, so we spent the day going back and forth on some other roads to support Ken. We saw him twice and were happy to make it back to the finish to see him end his journey. He finished in eight hours and 11ish minutes and was the first person.

He was a perfect 3 for 3 in wins for the series and took home the overall finisher prize!

Brooke and I made sure to take a cuddle break before he finished.

Somehow he had the energy to play at the park with Brooke after the race. Not sure how 😉

On Sunday, I got out for about a 2 hour ride with lots of climbing. It was gorgeous!

I met up with Ken, Brooke and Jasper and we explored Sinks State Park.

Got our hike on!

The water was freezing. Naturally, Ken went in.

On our way out of the canyon, we saw a gorgeous, young Golden Retriever in the middle of the highway. We stopped and looked for tags and he didnt have any. Naturally, we put him in the car and drove around. We tried several houses but no one was home. Luckily, we found a local couple that was willing to keep him and find his owners (since we were leaving that night!). They were so sweet and we left him in good hands!

We packed up camp and drove West towards Jackson. Spent the night in Turpin Meadows and made it to the Tetons the next morning!

After settling into camp, we loaded on to GrandBob and Nene’s boat and set out for an afternoon on the water!

Perfect Fall boating attire 😉

It was a bit hazy from smoke, but still gorgeous. Bald eagle, for the win!

On Tuesday, we headed up to Yellowstone to show Brooke some of the awesomeness!

Always spectacular!

It was pretty great!

We managed to get out on the boat on Wednesday morning before driving the 8 hours home. All the things!

While we were gone, Fall arrived.

I did some volunteering at a 50/100 mile running race on Saturday.

Did the Church thing on Sunday. Followed it up with some cookie baking (after some house staining of course 😉  ).

PSA: Dont fight a shopping cart with 4 flats of water bottles. It will win.

Been getting some workouts in! Six miles of running on Sunday, 3 this morning with weights after. Threshold ride on Saturday. Just training for life right now 🙂

Hope you are doing well and squeezing the last bit out of summertime!

This and That

Hi, Friends!! Anyone else having a mild panic attack about the Fall feel in the air?!

Don’t get me wrong, we are very much looking forward to some cooler weather and snow after this hot and dry summer…..but SO MUCH TO DO!!!!

I know it has been a little bit, but I have had a long to-do list and not enough hours (read: grading until the late night and waking up early to workout!).

Some highlights from the past couple of weeks….

I am pretty sure that our tomato plant really likes where it is at. This is from over a week ago and it is even larger now. Possible?! There are a ton of little tomatoes on there and they are finally starting to ripen. Brooke and I have had a few each and they are beyond delicious!! (So are the cucumbers, zucchini and carrots!).

I had a conference call for work. So lucky this little girl is so patient and just plays the whole time!

Still working on staining the house! We needed to replace some wood pieces and we FINALLY have all of those to work with! Big progress this weekend….really no choice…..#winteriscoming!

We finally had some rain over a few days. Everything sucked that water right up.

We got to celebrate Ken’s 35th birthday last week!! Dropped these off at work on Thursday 😉

Brooke officially started (homeschool) Kindergarten last week and we are LOVING it!! So fun to spend a bunch of one-on-one time watching her learn. She would do math and science all day if she could!

We went out to Happy Hour last Thursday which was a real treat. We rarely go out to dinner for date night and of course we took the kid with us. Ha. Back to Mambo because that Peach Pizza….and $3 beers 😉

Ken took the day off on Friday (his actual birthday). He got in a nice ride and then I set out on mine! The only problem is that I ran into thunderstorms and had to get rescued. Changed our afternoon paddle boarding plans 😦

Saturday involved a nice long ride for Ken while Brooke and I headed to golf. Poor Jasper had a bad reaction to his shots earlier in the week and we ended up back at the vet. He is doing a bit better now. Only acting drunk occasionally.

Sunday I was able to get in a 30ish mile ride. It was gorgeous….minus the wind 😉

Got a bunch of house projects in before Ken headed out to dirt bike with a friend.

Yesterday, Brooke and I got to take an unexpected trip to Kremmling. Turns out some of the wood that was ordered for us was not the correct measurements, so we went straight out to a mill to get it ourselves! Yes, those are 12 feet long. So long!

Other than that, life has been pretty much a steady state of school work, grading, projects, chores and workouts!

Pretty proud that I have actually been getting up with my 5:30 am alarm and getting my workouts done. Sure makes it easier to fit everything into the day….sure, I want to go to bed with Brooke at 8….but that’s when I start “working”.

Another fun fact: We are legit throwing a Gravel Bike race next August. Sponsors are becoming a real thing. It’s looking big. Almost time to take over that website and start up the social media! Always ready for another project!!

Hope you are enjoying the rest of summer! Fall is right around the corner up here!
