Road Trip and Classes

Hey there! How was your weekend?? I took a little trip to the Front Range for some continuing education classes while Ken and Brooke stayed home and played! It was a different kind of weekend than the usual.

Last week, we started getting dustings of snow…

Brooke and I made it back to Storytime Stretchers for the first time in forever. She loved it.

We have had a TON of rain/snow/slush. I think we have actually made our way back from our drought summer!

We are all loving the homeschooling over here. This guy has to join in on the fun!

Ken brought this book home for me. He thinks I would be good at it. Ha. I started reading it. They literally move buckets of gravel as an obstacle. Maybe I would be good at it!

Last Friday night, we got dressed up and went to dinner at Mambo’s because: a) happy hour and b) Peach pizza is still happening!

We headed to a birthday party afterwards and stayed until about 9:15. Brooke had a great time once the middle school aged kids got there. She plays up in age groups! hahaha.

She took my phone to capture some important aspects of the party.

Good one, Brooke.

We got home around 10 and I finished packing. My alarm went of at 3:50 am. Ouch. Luckily, it was an easy drive and I got to my class about 20 minutes early (started at 8 am). I even got to FaceTime Brooke when she got up!

At lunch, I was able to sneak out on my old training paths…unfortunately, they have paved them since we moved 😦 It was still gorgeous and woke me up for the rest of the day 😉 And, let’s be honest, I had not ridden my bike outside in a LONG time.

Since I skipped the time at lunch to grab food (I forgot my lunch since I left the house at 4 am :/ ), I grabbed a bag of chips from the hotel. Luckily I had grabbed a recovery protein shake and Honey Stinger bar from home!

Finished class, met up with E and C for dinner, hit Trader Joe’s and made it to some of our friend’s house to spend the night.

Sunday morning saw several inches of snow on the ground and some super chilly temps. Made it to class and the instructor was nice enough to let me head home early and finish the remaining 3 hours online!

The drive was a bit nuts and I watched several semi-trucks and cars slide off of I-70.

But by the time I made it out towards my house….dry!

And even some sun!

I was pretty happy to see the fam!

Yesterday was filled with a media meeting, some errands, school work, grading, media-ing (totally a word) and a 4 mile run (oh and an hour on the trainer pre-dawn).

Today we did school, I finished my online hours from my class, started taking down outside furniture and prepping for winter. Got in a relaxed 5 mile run and even a little stretching). Did half of my lab grading. Whew. Time for bed!

Fall Pictures and Race Plans

Hi there and happy Friday (night)!!

Two posts in one week! Dream big!

This post is mainly for my family who is excited to see Brooke’s Fall pictures….so if looking at a cute kid isn’t your thing…I will see you next week!

Since I am going to actually start training again, I thought it would be fun to start trying to get my workouts written down for each week.

Not really training for anything this Fall/Winter, but so far my plans next year include:

May- Belgian Wafer Ride: 68 mixed surface race on the bike-I am opting for the half since I didnt ride my bike this year. (Ken will be doing the full 140 mile race)

July-Crusher in the Tushar: 70 mile road/gravel race with a lot of climbing.

September-Run Rabbit Run: 50 mile trail running race.

Lots of moderately paced, long workouts in my future with a LOT of climbing….and so it begins! Since I barely rode or ran this Summer, there will be a lot of easy building this Fall and Winter so that I can start some actual efforts in the Spring.

Monday: 7 mile run @ 8:26 pace/ weights

Tuesday: 2 x 3 mile runs 1) 8:47 2) 9:27 paces

Wednesday: 3 miles 8:54 with 1.5 around threshold./ weights

Thursday: 45 minute spin am, 4 miles 8:40 ish pace

Friday: 3 miles easy ~9:00 pace/weights

Total: 23 miles

Aiming to get 6-7 this weeked to make it to 30 miles for the week.

And now for pictures….

Catching up and Getting Ready for Weather!

Okay, who hit the fast forward button?! October. Stop it.

I literally have not idea where the last 6 weeks went. It is like they zoomed by and I am freaking out a little.

We have had a TON of things going on around here….so this is kind of a Phone Photo Drop.

Brooke has been LOVING homeschooling. Me, too. Her group met up for some fishing a couple weeks ago and it was awesome! Someone even caught a fish!! (And the crayfish were a crowd favorite as well!).

Spent some time at the park….we are in full Fall mode over here!

IMG_7162

There was a lot of zucchini bread consumed this summer…the garden was a success!!

IMG_7169

Unfortunately, our dry and windy conditions over the summer have seen fires pop up all over. We have been lucky with wind direction and the smoke has not been much of a problem for us.

IMG_7171

Some pretty stellar clouds…just saying.

IMG_7175

The wind has made for some awesome kite flying (not so great when you are trying to stain your house on an extension ladder!).

IMG_7178

It started dropping below freezing at night so we moved our tomato plant to the shop (hanging upside down!). It just keeps giving us great tomatoes!!

IMG_7179

Science is her favorite.

IMG_7182

With a side of tea parties. This was my date.

IMG_7192

She has ridden outside more than me lately.

IMG_7197

She is not mad about it!

IMG_7198

IMG_7200

Officially embracing the ranch style for Church. Either that or I am aiming for Rodeo Queen next year 😉

IMG_7214

Getting SOOOOO close to being done staining.

DSC_0652

Spent the weekend supporting a group of cyclists pre-riding our race course for next year! The long course is about 141 miles. It was a long day on Saturday, but everyone had a BLAST! We love our cycling community!

IMG_7216

Our forecast is trying to make up for all of the lack of water this summer!

IMG_7223

We are taking advantage by getting our Play-doh-ing on! I love her creative mind!

IMG_7224

I HAVE been working out! Some days it is really hard to fit it in (and then I try to get up at 5:30 to do it before Brooke is up!) but it is happening. I am not really training for anything this Fall, but have BIG plans for next year!! There will be both bike races and running races. (This summer was very house-project centered for me). I look forward to all of my bikes and a lot of trail miles on foot!

Currently, I am doing a lot more running than riding. This is mainly because of lack of time and it is faster to get in a good running workout 😉 Last week I was at 20 miles of running with a little bit of trainer time. Just working on building miles and letting my body get used to the stress again.  Aiming for a 50 mile running race next Summer….better start now 😉

Weights have also made their way into my life (now that I am done moving gravel 😉 ). I aim for 3x per week. Brooke LOVES joining me for this. I try to do them on days where I run longer or harder so that I get real “easier” days surrounding them.

Now that the weather is getting chillier and we will be inside more…(maybe!?) you should see more of me!

I promise I have more exciting things to say 😉

*Took Fall pics of Brooke (okay, maybe I am just excited about those).

*I am trying zero-drop Altra trail runners (I will let you know how I feel about it!).

*Ski season is coming!!

*In a couple of weeks we will officially launch our Summer 2019 Gravel Cycling Race! It is going to be BIG. You can find us at sbtgrvl.com or like us on Instagram…SBTGRVL  (A good amount of my time is going to working on this-hence radio silence).

Hope you are having a great Fall and taking some time for some leaf peeping! We are in the peak of our change right now and it is off the charts gorgeous!!!

Until next time!
