Hi there! How are you? I know, I disappeared again. So many things going on!
I love Spring and Summer so much….but somehow we lack downtime. We will have to work on that.
Random highlights from last week….and a trip with a race from the weekend!
My sister sent Brooke the sweetest top from her recent trip to Cabo. Looks cozy to me!
Ventured to the pool last week. This kid does it right. Still learning how to walk in flip flops.
I spent 2 days last week filling my raised bed with dirt. Keep in mind, it is 6x10x2 feet. That is a lot of dirt. The majority came from a pile we got from a neighbor and then organic raised bed dirt from ACE. I moved the majority with a 5 gallon bucket and a shovel. Somewhere around 1500-1800 pounds? No wonder I was tired!
Front yard flowers are coming around!
This girl is obsessed with asparagus?!
On Wednesday, Ken was doing a group ride that came out towards our house. Brooke and I decided to meet up with him.
The climb with the trailer was worth the view.
Just a dog living the best life ever.
Thursday and Friday were spent cooking/prepping/packing for a weekend race. We drove up to Casper, Wyoming on Friday afternoon for Ken to race a 120 mile gravel race on Saturday.
The weather was a bit rough. Around 40 degrees and rainy all morning. We lucked out and camped in the parking lot of the start line. Super convenient seeing as the race began at 6 am. Ken literally got ready and then headed out for a short warm up and went right to the start line. Brooke wasn’t even up yet!
Once the B got up around 6:40, we got dressed and packed up the cooler of goodies and headed out on course. We had plans to see Ken around 50 miles in and made sure to get some quality play in while we waited.
The guys eventually rolled by and Ken was in the lead group of 5.
We headed on down the course (ended up stopping to help someone with a mechanical) and then gave Ken food/drinks at mile 65. Just after that stop, it was down to two.
It stayed that way for most of the rest of the race. We were at 2 other places for Ken in case he needed anything. Even gave his competitor a coke. And then we followed them.
Around 4 miles to go (you know, like 115 miles in?!) Ken put down some power and was able to create a gap. We waited until there was significant space between and then fell in behind Ken.
He was having some chain issues so we stayed close (but behind him and to the side-so we were not allowing him to draft and so that he could see the guy chasing him).
He made the gap stick and was able to finish on the top step for the day!
Sweet after party with the best dates!
Brooke “fixed” his hat.
Winner winner! Also, he looks like a giant!
We spent the night again in the trailer before heading home in time for me to sneak in a ride! It was a fantastic weekend!!
This morning I got out for an hour on the bike before Ken headed into work. Thinking about running tomorrow morning….but it is getting late! I’m sure I will figure something out 😉
Hope you had a fantastic start to your week!
Great blogging…!
Interesting…I did NOT post that reply at 4:58 AM! It was 10:58 PM, May 22!
Sounds like such an AWESOME trip. My family is currently planning our fall trip to Steamboat. I would LOVE to run with you or even just meet up for coffee while I’m in the area. I would totally hope that I could explore some new areas to me on foot! 🙂
So fun! And that sounds fantastic! There is so much exploring to do. They put in a new trail last summer just outside of town that is GORGEOUS in the fall apparently! Hoping to get on it this summer to check it out!
