Fit After Little Bits

Riding, Running and Projecting.

Hey, guys! I’m really killing it in the blog world right now, huh?!

The weeks are filled with so many projects, prepping for classes, cleaning and such and the weekends are filled with even more projects and a lot of workouts with a side of family fun!

I do have some highlights from last week….

Wednesday morning I got out for a ride at 6 am and it was gorgeous (and brisk). Got splashed by a truck….the guy is 25 and new to the area. I dont think he knows that everyone knows everyone out here and I know exactly where he lives…not the greatest way to make friends with your neighbor!

Ken and I spent last week drilling and welding and painting some metal for a custom shelving unit for the living room. He is really excited to spend his free time doing my projects 😉

Especially when I dress super sexy.

To add more animals to my list of things to do (Jasper, the fish, the hummingbirds, Ken and Brooke-I kid, kind of), we are raising butterflies. Perfect.

Brooke got in some quality park time in town of Wednesday.

First time she made it up to the top chair!

We ran several errands before heading home and doing some more shop work.

On Thursday, I spent most of the day outside mowing and cleaning up the yard. Apparently, I need sunscreen between my gloves and shirt when I mow. Ouch.

Did some cleaning in the house too…

On Friday, Ken got off a bit early for the long weekend. He rode his bike home for his workout and then I rode to town to pick up the truck. Multitasking at its finest! The views were pretty outstanding. Seventeenpointseven miles of pure bliss. Bring on summer!

Friday evening, Ken’s sister (Errin) and her husband (Colin) made it to our house for the weekend. They brought their two adorable 7 month old kittens. Brooke and Jasper were in absolute Heaven.

On Saturday, the guys rode while Errin did science projects with Brooke. I spent the morning digging a 99 foot ditch to put paving stones/bricks in to separate gravel and grass. All.the.projects.

Once the guys returned, Errin and I went out for 48 miles of awesomeness. I definitely felt the fact that my longest ride of the year had been 34.5 miles. Way to prepare, LeeAnn.

These kind of views (Hahn’s Peak) make it all worth it!

So do all the babies!!

Sunday was filled with another boys ride in the morning followed by E and I getting out for a 30 mile loop on the gravel roads around Elk Mountain. I was pretty much toast by the end and happy to flop on the floor.

In the midst of all the play, Ken got a water tank pulled off the trailer to fix, he and C moved a large bench/cabinet to the basement and we finished up the metal portion of the shelves! I love them already!

We said goodbye to Errin, Colin and the kittens around 10:30 on Monday morning and did some work around the house. Ken offered up a paddle boarding trip so we ventured to Steamboat Lake for an hour of paddle boarding and a picnic lunch (plus a stop for ice cream on the way home!).

Did a little of this and a little of that and before I knew it, it was time to take Brooke to her dance class. Spent the evening working on Ken’s legs watching a documentary on the Ouray 100 mile ultra that Errin recommended to us. So interesting! I am toying with the idea of running the Run Rabbit Run 50 mile race in September of next year. Could be exciting, right?? I am sure the 3.3 miles I ran on the treadmill today will translate 😉

And there you have it! Hope that you had a wonderful Memorial Day. We are very excited to usher in summer over here!

Rattlesnake Rally, etc

Hi there! How are you? I know, I disappeared again. So many things going on!

I love Spring and Summer so much….but somehow we lack downtime. We will have to work on that.

Random highlights from last week….and a trip with a race from the weekend!

My sister sent Brooke the sweetest top from her recent trip to Cabo. Looks cozy to me!

Ventured to the pool last week. This kid does it right. Still learning how to walk in flip flops.

I spent 2 days last week filling my raised bed with dirt. Keep in mind, it is 6x10x2 feet. That is a lot of dirt. The majority came from a pile we got from a neighbor and then organic raised bed dirt from ACE. I moved the majority with a 5 gallon bucket and a shovel. Somewhere around 1500-1800 pounds? No wonder I was tired!

Front yard flowers are coming around!

This girl is obsessed with asparagus?!

On Wednesday, Ken was doing a group ride that came out towards our house. Brooke and I decided to meet up with him.

The climb with the trailer was worth the view.

Just a dog living the best life ever.

Thursday and Friday were spent cooking/prepping/packing for a weekend race. We drove up to Casper, Wyoming on Friday afternoon for Ken to race a 120 mile gravel race on Saturday.

The weather was a bit rough. Around 40 degrees and rainy all morning. We lucked out and camped in the parking lot of the start line. Super convenient seeing as the race began at 6 am. Ken literally got ready and then headed out for a short warm up and went right to the start line. Brooke wasn’t even up yet!

Once the B got up around 6:40, we got dressed and packed up the cooler of goodies and headed out on course. We had plans to see Ken around 50 miles in and made sure to get some quality play in while we waited.

The guys eventually rolled by and Ken was in the lead group of 5.

We headed on down the course (ended up stopping to help someone with a mechanical) and then gave Ken food/drinks at mile 65. Just after that stop, it was down to two.

It stayed that way for most of the rest of the race. We were at 2 other places for Ken in case he needed anything. Even gave his competitor a coke. And then we followed them.

Around 4 miles to go (you know, like 115 miles in?!) Ken put down some power and was able to create a gap. We waited until there was significant space between and then fell in behind Ken.

He was having some chain issues so we stayed close (but behind him and to the side-so we were not allowing him to draft and so that he could see the guy chasing him).

He made the gap stick and was able to finish on the top step for the day!

Sweet after party with the best dates!

Brooke “fixed” his hat.

Winner winner! Also, he looks like a giant!

We spent the night again in the trailer before heading home in time for me to sneak in a ride! It was a fantastic weekend!!

This morning I got out for an hour on the bike before Ken headed into work. Thinking about running tomorrow morning….but it is getting late! I’m sure I will figure something out 😉

Hope you had a fantastic start to your week!

Weekend Round Up and Fitting Workouts in Anywhere!

Hey, Friends!! How is it going? Did you have a nice weekend? So far, I have managed to stay on the healthy side of things…I better go find some thick wood to knock on!

Blogging in the Spring and Summer is a lot harder than in the Winter. We spend SO much time outside that it makes it hard to sneak on the computer. I have to start prepping for my next class, so I will be back to a more regularly scheduled program in a week or so 😉

Some random happenings as of late….

Last week, Brooke and I did some playing with play doh. I was pretty proud of the flame on my candle. Feel sorry for the husband…these are the texts he gets during the day. Super entertaining.

We also ventured over to cut some asparagus at our neighbor’s house. She was out of town and afraid that they might go to seed if they didnt get cared for. We head over for one more batch tomorrow morning. Brooke is currently obsessed with eating it. I didnt like it until I was, like, 30.

We got in some dirt road riding during the week!

With some stops to say hi to our fave friends.

Took a peak at some rock before skate lessons. She tried to lift it. Didnt budge 😉

Brooke did GREAT at her skating lesson…some light bulb clicked and she actually appeared to be SKATING! One more week and then we will do a lesson punch card for the summer!

Since we were both starving (with groceries to unload), we stopped and grabbed a couple of pizzas. (Coupons for the win!!)

This girl…she will occasionally push some buttons, but man is she a good kid!

On Friday, we hung around the house. It was windy so I wasnt feeling the trailer. I actually hopped on the trainer for an hour.

Got fancy with some dinner!

On Saturday, Ken dropped a friend’s car off at work (he installed a hitch for her) and rode home. I got to sneak out for a 2 hour ride and it was just glorious! Even ran into some friends who were doing a long ride and they stopped to fill up water at our house for the rest of their ride. Ken and I spent the rest of the day organizing the shop.

Sunday (Mother’s Day) started out with some crepes and lattes before Ken and I set to work building my raised bed. Everything takes longer than you think, but he was able to head out for a 2 hour ride before I got in a 1 hour spin.

It was pretty ugly out 😉

Today has been a typical Monday. Spent all morning outside: lining the bottom of my raised bed, adding rocks for drainage and beginning the daunting task of adding dirt. Eek.

Around 4, Brooke and I loaded up on the bike/trailer and headed for her ballet class. It is about 8 miles there and then 8 miles back. We had a nasty headwind on the way there that somehow only translated to a tailwind for half the way home?! She had a blast and I was excited to sneak in a workout that way! My legs are now thoroughly trashed!

And that’s where we are at! We shall see what tomorrow brings! Hopefully more time outside 🙂
