Back to Blackmere

Howdy! Happy Thursday to you. Tomorrow is Fri-YAY!! Yes!! Any big plans for the weekend on the books? We are *possibly* getting some snow tomorrow which could mean that we have to head in to do some skiing over the weekend. I GUESS I could be talked into that 😉

This morning started around 6:30 when the small child climbed into bed with me. I should have set her *wake up light* clock to a later time 😛 I stayed up too late watching a movie last night….Ken asked what chic flick I would be watching (since we do most of our movie watching together), but I ended up engrossed in the movie “Concussion” with Will Smith. It is all about the concussion issues plaguing the NFL. I thought it was really good (and nerdy…just the way I like it!).

After breakfast, Brooke was working on an art project so I popped down to the basement to spin out my legs for 45 minutes. I started the movie “The Circle” and am excited to finish it up when Brooke goes to bed tonight!

Post-spin, we played around the house for a bit before having a quick lunch and heading to town. It was SUPPOSED to be warm today, but when we got to the park, it was still showing 17 degrees in the truck. Luckily, we are always prepared for winter and busted out all the warm snow clothes and everyone was happy!

Once Brooke had enough park time, we headed to the base of Blackmere on Emerald Mountain for some hiking! Jasper was probably the happiest about this, but we had a great time too!! Brooke wanted to go up all the steep climbs and had fun sliding down on her butt!

I call it a mega-win that I got all of us in a picture…and even better that 2/3 of us are looking at the camera! We sure missed Ken though! 😦

After our hike, Brooke and I hit up the pool while Jasper took a nap. Since it was 25 degrees by then, he was plenty warm with his jacket on in the truck. He would MUCH rather wait in the truck than be home alone. We had a great time swimming for about 40 minutes before loading back up and heading home.

The snow is supposed to show up overnight, so I took advantage of the warm weather and moved firewood to the porch. Brooke caught up on a dinosaur show for a bit while finishing up her art project. She needed some down time 😉

Now she is hanging in the bathtub before we figure out what to make for dinner!

Tomorrow is clean the house day…with a side of a 4 mile run fit in somewhere…but it is FRIDAY, so we are excited 🙂

Single Track Snow Runnings.

Hi friends! How’s it going?? You made it halfway through the week 🙂 Woohoo!!!

Yesterday started out with a bit of snow! We were not expecting it, so it was extra awesome! Ken and I were up at 5:30 to ride the trainers in the basement for an hour. We watched the movie Deep Water Horizon. Intense!

Since it was a workday, it was up to Brooke, Jasper and I to move the snow.

Ken went on a road trip today with some co-workers and asked me to whip up some cookies for the trip. Seriously, Toll House high altitude recipe. The best.

For dinner, we rocked a Sunbasket meal. We have enjoyed the service, though not quite enough food for the two of us. We eat a lot. Ha.

This morning, Ken got up to ride the trainer but I stayed in bed with visions of running dancing in my head. Since Brooke was going to be at ski lessons, I had plans to run with a mom friend. She ended up a bit late and had to be back early, so things were pretty short, but it was nice to get out. Jasper was incredibly excited about running on single track.

Got in about 3.3 miles before hurrying back to pick up Brooke.

Once we got home, I hopped on the treadmill for another 2.8 miles to get 6 for the day. The outside miles were tough enough on their own, but I really worked hard on the treadmill. Warmed up for half a mile and then did 1.5 miles at a 7:30/7:41 pace and then the last mile at an 8:30 pace to cool down. My legs will be tired tomorrow, but really nice to start working the speed…it has been a while.

Spent some time at the neighbors’ house loving on their Golden Retriever. He has some pretty aggressive cancer and it is absolutely heartbreaking. He is 4.

Home for dinner…anytime Ken will not be eating dinner with us, Brooke insists on zucchini noodles.

Now I am just trying to stay awake until 8:30 before falling asleep on the couch 😉 Speed work and training is exhausting! Have a great rest of your week!

Disappearing Act

Hi there! How was your weekend? I kind of disappeared last week…roughest cold ever and so happy to FINALLY feel like I might be able to do an actual workout again!

A couple of highlights from the last few days….

Brooke loves to come down and workout with us! Since I wasn’t running because of a silly cough, I was on the trainer all last week. Not that I am complaining. It was nice to spin the legs (though if I got my heart rate over about 100 bpm, I would start coughing)…lots of easy spinning! She did the gloves and hat on her own 😉

Got this bad boy…Brooke and I made some scones and Superhero muffins this weekend. So healthy and SO delicious!! Already a big fan!

On Saturday, Ken went ice fishing and Brooke and I gave the indoor plants some TLC. My aloe was quickly breaching his pot, so he got upgraded 😉

To balance our healthy treats, Brooke insisted on making sugar cookies. Ken didnt complain.

Ken and I got on the trainers for 1.5 hours in the afternoon. Mainly because we were watching The Fate of the Furious and didnt want to stop. I’m sure they will make 47 more of those movies.

We headed to church before coming home for some lunch and playtime. I went out on my fat bike for 35 minutes, Ken went out for an hour and then we hopped on the trainers for 45 more minutes to finish our movie. Productive fitness weekend!

Over the past couple of weeks, I have read 3 books. Reading is the best! I will share some thoughts on them later this week! They were all awesome.

This morning, Ken and I were up at 5:45 to ride the trainers. I bailed after 45 minutes to make breakfast and am hoping to get in a run this afternoon. Time to start rebuilding the miles after a week off. Thinking that the treadmill may be the best bet for my lungs today!
