Fit After Little Bits

eat harder

You guys. Last night, when the husband and I were being lazy butts relaxing on the couch (okay, I gave him a 40 minute leg massage too)….it started to….SNOW?!?!

What?! September 19th?! Isn’t that still technically summer??

Yep. Woke up to this sight!

Now, dont get me wrong…I love me some snow, but I cant say that I was quite ready to see it in my yard today. Thankfully, it was gone by early afternoon 😉

Someone was pretty excited about it though…

I think she is going to be a big help this winter!

We spent the morning doing a couple of outside chores (and deciding that we need to skip camping this week and cut firewood!) and then Brooke informed me that we needed to make hot chocolate. With whipped cream. Done!

Brooke and I spent the morning playing some mean games of Candy Land. It is fun that she is starting to understand the rules and totally getting into the game!

Around 11, I hopped on the trainer for a 50 minute Wednesday Workout. Three 5 minute intervals at threshold with harder efforts every 50 minutes. I was a sweaty mess. Hurt so good.

A bit into the workout, the husband let me know that we would be having company for dinner. Normally, not an issue, but I should have gone to the grocery yesterday and was seriously lacking in the fresh food department.

A quick shower led way to some brownie making, because-hey…if you dont have a lot of food, you should have dessert 😉

My love for red in the kitchen apparently knows no end!

Some scrounging led me to defrost some steaks, roast some Yukon Gold potatoes and create a green bean/cucumber salad. Not gonna lie, it all ended up being pretty delicious.

Had our guest for dinner (and his little Chihuahua) and some chatting before he had to leave to rescue some friends who got their truck stuck in the mud.

Currently enjoying some relaxing on the couch and catching up.

Ken sent me these pics from the weekend…These views though!!!

Love me some pink!

A Low Key Week and a Weekend Getaway.

Hi there! Jumping back into things over here after a busy but kind of boring last week. Somehow we had a lot going on, but it was pretty relaxed?

Some highlights:

*Brooke swim lessons=2 days of lifting.

*Brooke rode her bike for the first time without training wheels on the bike path in town?!?!

*Packed up the camper and left town! 😉

Last Thursday and Friday looked a lot like this….

It absolutely did great things for the lingering flames and smoke!

Friday afternoon, we loaded up into the truck and headed for the Snowy Mountain Range in Wyoming. It was a quick 2.5 hours from town. As we approached the range, we could tell that we were taking a trip into winter. The temperature kept dropping and we were quickly welcomed by snow.

We may have spent most of Friday night and Saturday morning staying warm in the trailer. Snowed all night. Ha!

Luckily, Saturday afternoon ended up being brisk and windy, but we were able to get outside and do some playing!

The scenery was GORGEOUS! Jasper and Brooke couldnt get enough!

Just riding her bike around camp!

Yes, we dress really classy when we camp…especially when it is freezing!

Got out for a beautiful 2 mile hike!

Casually going up a mountain.

Way cooler than me.

On Sunday, it was warm enough to head out for a mountain bike ride! Errin, Ken and I ventured out for about an hour and a half. The views were out of this world!

Seriously, rad.

After packing up, we headed home through the most picturesque country.

Got home in time to throw together some dinner and hit the hot tub before crashing on the couch!

Yesterday, Brooke and I spent most of the day cleaning up and unpacking. She came out of her room in the morning in her tutu. Perfect way to start the day!

Ken was able to get out of work at 5, which meant that I didnt have to fight the wind with the trailer, but was able to go for a ride solo!

These views sure dont disappoint!

Today was uber windy and we didnt really feel like being outside much. This equated to deep cleaning the kitchen and playing inside for the day! Jasper took full advantage of the lazy feel and relaxed in all.the.blankets.

Now I am spending my evening saying hi to you before working on prepping my next class! Spent an hour on the trainer today so I can call it good for the day 🙂

Unintentional Blogcation

And we’re back! It feels like it has been forever! Okay, maybe it has. We are finally feeling some normalcy after a week on edge.

Last Monday, a fire flared up in the mountains next to our house. Here are some pictures…

It was a pretty stressful week with a couple of evacuation notices, packing of bags and loading up of vehicles. We were lucky that they never fully kicked us out. The fire got to within 1.5 miles with us and going to bed at night with flames out the window was slightly terrifying.

The firefighters are INCREDIBLE. I have no words for how thankful I am for them and their ability to contain that fire before it came across the road. These guys are the real deal.

For the first few days, we were in a state of flames and smoke. As the week went on, we had some pretty terrible smoke-like dont go outside at all. Currently, we are doing pretty well during the day, but it still wake up to some serious smoke in the morning when the air is still overnight.

In the midst of our crazy week, we did find some ways to enjoy our time inside and snuck to town for some “better” air-still pretty crummy.

Not sure what is happening here…

Tried out some yoga/story time at the Library. She LOVED it and we will be going back this week. It works out because it is right before swim lessons (which she absolutely LOVES). Good times had by all! Bonus: I get 25 minutes in the weight room while she does swim lessons 2/week!

Saturday, Brooke and I made about 8 dozen chocolate chip cookies and Ken took them up to the firemen!

We also spent some time assembling this bad boy! Bring on winter!! I am in no way the biggest fan of working out indoors…but those negative degree runs were rough last year! Also, easier to get up in the dark to work out in the mornings when you dont have to freeze (and I get to work out during the day if Brooke isn’t interested in going for a longer run!).

Working on my braid game. Also, those highlights!

Yesterday, we opted to escape the smoke and head to Steamboat Lake. It had been SO LONG since I had worked out outside….like over a week! Ken let us drive the new truck (Brooke loves Sirius and the kid stations). Funny story, we got stuck going up the pass behind a garbage truck. Literally, 25 mph. Ken later asked if we floored it up and over and ruined his fuel economy. I laughed when I showed him this picture.

It was well worth the drive to get some sweet single track trail running in! 3 miles of non-smoking bliss! Sidenote: BOB on the single track= exciting. Jasper may have been the happiest of all.

Got crafty over the weekend!

Spent today at swim lessons and grocery shopping. AND opening the windows for a couple of hours!!! WHAT!?!?!?! Got in a 45 minute spin this morning in the basement and some gym time while B was being a fish. Split some firewood….all the chores 😉

It rained and hailed here this afternoon. Never know what you are going to get!!
