Hump Day!

Sorry, couldnt help myself!

Another day at the homestead over here. Little of this, little of that.

Last night got a little later than expected (darn you, White Collar!) so my morning workout got pushed a little later. My legs were feeling the efforts from yesterday’s trailer ride, so it turned into a recovery/easy day.

Two mile jog to the mailbox and up the street with the pup (with a funny story to come!) and then 45 minutes on the trainer because it is impossible to truly get a soft pedal ride with the trailer.

But…back to the jog…Sooooo Jasper and I are jogging along on the road. All of a sudden I get that “someone is watching me feeling”. I look behind me and what do I see…but a doe!

Oh deer!

(Not my picture, but you get the idea)

Jasper had NO idea she was there. Some watchdog he is! I kept looking back and when I did, she would stop, but as soon as we started jogging again, she trotted right along behind us! Eventually she bounded back into the meadow. All I can think is that she thought Jasper was her baby and that I had taken him?? He looks a lot like a deer and with the wind blowing the opposite way, maybe she was coming to take him home?! Regardless, it was pretty interesting and I was happy she kept some distance because she is a good size and I didn’t want to have to fight her for my dog 😉

The rest of the day was spent doing some mowing and yard work and playing with the kiddo.

She dressed herself today. Check out those joggers. Jealous. Yes, that is a blanket fort in the living room.

I should have her dress me. This top knot/no idea what to do with it mess is fabulous. And it is a terrifying picture. So I thought I should post it. #nomakeup #sorry

Our neighbor brought us some peonies from her garden. They are gorgeous. I have to run the air purifier so they dont kill Ken. Thanks, allergies.

Random sequence from last night. Jasper really likes pizza crust.

Oh snap, you are going to give me some?!

Post nibble success!

Alright, we out.

We will probably be MIA tomorrow as we make the 8 hour Costco trip.

Have a good Thursday!

What Day is it?

First I started to type Happy Thursday and realized I was ahead of myself. Hopped to Wednesday and realized that we aren’t even there yet.  Wowza. Anyway. Hello, Tuesday!

Just hanging around the house today being productive-ish!

First off, yes…there are swings hanging from the play set! Ken hooked those up for her last night. She didn’t complain.

Today, I worked on the roof in the shop. There are a lot of pieces that go into the assembly. NOTHING comes together. But that’s okay, I’m getting pretty good with power tools 😉 I am stuck at a point where I need another adult. Brooke couldn’t quite keep the sides upright.

There must be a fire somewhere to our West because we have had this icky sky and air all day. My lungs did NOT love that on our ride today.

My goal was to get to bed early last night to ride this morning, but that didn’t happen. Too much grading to get done with a side of our newest show obsession: White Collar. So far so good. With the later night, I opted to roll with the kiddo today. We did just over an hour and I put in some good efforts on the climbs and flats. My legs are currently shot.

The cows don’t seem to mind the yucky air quality. I guess when you just stand and eat all day….I could get around that lifestyle 😉

Random picture of my oregano because I have not killed it yet. Yup, be impressed.

I mentioned to the husband yesterday that I was so hot while I was running my whole 3 miles. OH….anyone doing the Strava #MyMile Challenge?! I threw it into my workout (er, recovery run turned workout) yesterday because I didn’t really know when else to try it. It was 80 degrees and sunny, dusty gravel roads and rolling hills (ran at home) and I was supposed to shoot for a mile PR. Well, with the amazing feeling of death, I was able to sneak in a 6:40 between a warm up and recovery mile for a total of 3. Pretty proud of that time considering the conditions. Pretty sure that is a nice sized PR for me (and I have done about 0 speed work in the last 6 months).

But anyways….pre-tangent….I was complaining that it was hot.

So the husband sent me this….

Touche husband. Cant really complain I guess!

On a random note, the husband is planning a big ride with a group this weekend that culminates at our home. With a BBQ. Time to start planning for that bad boy!!

See ya tomorrow!

Slowly, but Surely

Howdy and happy Monday! Is that a thing? It is about 3 pm here, so I guess that means it is almost over? That’s happy!

I hope that you had a fantastic weekend full of fun. Ours was filled with some workouts, family fun time and so serious building.

But let’s rewind….

When 2:30 rolled around, Brooke, Jasper and I loaded up into the car and headed to pick up the husband. Love the fact that the office closes at 3 on Fridays in the summer. He isn’t always done at 3, but it is nice that there is the option to leave if he is!

They dropped be off at Mad Creek for some mountain biking.

I took a picture of the map, but still struggled to find the correct trails. I was trying to link to the Red Dirt side, but there are no trail markers and I just missed the right one. I did however end up with 21 miles of riding for the evening and got to work on my (lack of) skills!

Ken started the day off with a 4 hour (70+ mile) road ride. Brooke and I chilled around the house cleaning up and playing while he was out. Once home, we smoothie(d) it up before getting to work on building Brooke’s playground!

Around 3:30, I decided I needed to get in a workout as well. Since I am trying to become better acquainted with my mountain bike, I hopped on that and headed up over the hill behind our house. I was only mostly afraid the whole time of being eaten by a mountain lion or bear. Luckily, I didnt see any animals (besides rodents and birds). You better believe that I was carrying my bear spray!

It was a pretty tough ride with over 1600 feet of climbing in about 6 miles (total of around 12 miles with the descent).

The view didn’t stink though!

Brooke and Ken came to check on me on the quad. Much appreciated!

As usual, we started out with church! Ken was sweet and loaded up the paddle boards (and the dog) before we left the house, so once we had finished at church, we headed up to Pearl Lake.

Since I was trying to get in a run (was aiming for 10, but that didn’t quite happen), Ken dropped me off at the turnoff for the lake. This gave me about 2 miles to warm up before hitting the trail. I had never ran at Pearl Lake, so we thought there was a trail that went around the lake. Whelp…I tried. I even did an out and back into the forest. It was gorgeous and a good climb (and descent). After the out and back, I tried to continue around the lake, but after wading through water and wishing I had a chainsaw to cut some trees and bushes, I gave up and head back the way I came.

Just over 6.5 miles with some good technical sections. I will take it!

Met up with the fam and we headed out onto the water! Ken took the kiddo on his board and Jasper came with me. We got in a nice 2.5 miles of paddling and water playing! It was amazing!

Once home, we got back to work on the playground (estimated build time on the thing is 30 hours-we are probably 10 in or so. Awesome).

And welcome to the present! Today hasn’t been super exciting. I have spent most of the day working on the playground in between working inside and doing the typical Monday things.

Progress!! There is a kitchen inside that front room that took me most of the day. The 4 year old helper makes things go extra fast, as you can imagine 😉

Hoping to get a run in this afternoon. It is in the 80s which feels like 100 in the sun. Dramatic much? Thinking that I will try to get out around 4:30 for a short run and then get up early tomorrow to ride!

Fun filled evening of grading on the schedule for tonight. Be jealous 😉
