Fit After Little Bits

First Race of the Season-Rhyolite

This Sunday marked my first race of the cyclocross season. I went into the race with no expectations and no pressure. It was more about seeing where my fitness is and what I need to focus on. It was also a day to figure out timing for eating lunch, wrangling the kiddo and warming up…in 95 degree weather and a dirt bowl.

The race went better than I expected. I only got in one lap for a pre-ride because I was rushing back to check on the kiddo. It was good to see the course, but I could probably have used a bit more of a look.

The race started off pretty good as I got the hole shot (first one off the start line and into the dirt), This is kind of my fave part of every race.

I felt pretty good for the beginning and then started to slow during laps 2 and 3. Boy, you forget how painful Cross is! All out for 40 minutes is BRUTAL!

I got passed by about 11 ladies, but was able to catch back up during lap 4 and ended up finishing the day in 8th. Pretty content with that result! The course was a lot of soft corners and slippery dusty dirt…my least favorite condition. Hoping that means good things for courses that I am more comfortable with!

The husband took a solid 6th in his race with some excellent competition. Another good day of racing 🙂

Yesterday, I did a nice recovery ride with the kiddo in the trailer and the pup. It was 8 miles of super easy pedaling….just what I needed. Today, I was up at 5 to get out the door for just under an hour of base riding. It was a teaching day for me, but the husband is dirt biking this afternoon, so my options were limited to one.

Probably another early morning workout tomorrow….with actual “work out” involved. Ooph those are rough!

Hope you are having a fantastic Tuesday…the kiddo is refusing to nap for like the 4th week in a row. Ugh.

Friday Faves and a NOT so fave

Happy Friday!

A Friday filled with a lot of memories…terrible and amazing. The horrifying events of September 11th and the amazing compassion and love that was shown for strangers. We will never forget.

This weekend brings my first race of cyclocross season and to say I am a bit nervous is an understatement. Sunday should be exciting, y’all!

This week has been filled with some in-the-dark training (story of my life in all months other than the summer!) and work and some awesome playtime with the kiddo and pup!

We saw some cool temps this week (40s overnight–and for an early morning ride on Wednesday) which leads to my first fave of the week….

Fall clothes and beanies!

So, it may not have been cold enough to warrant this outfit, but after a cold ride I just couldnt get warm. Trip to the park complete with vest and hat! Bam!

Non work days with this bug

Our Wednesday involved park play, the zoo and a trip to Trader Joe’s. Lots of girl time! (Not loving that she naps once a week making for some grumpy evenings)

The fact that they are best friends

No explanation needed…my heart melts for these moments.

Cute as a Button

This nail polish from Essie is so cute! I get comments on it all the time…and it just happens to match my helmet 🙂

Brooke’s new Soccer Ball

It is adorable watching her run around a field trying to kick it…and then giving up and throwing it.

And the not so faves….

Getting a wasp down my jersey and having it sting me last weekend. That hurt. Bad.

Cross is Here

Cyclocross season has officially made its way into our house. Last weekend, Ken raced the first kickoff race of the season. It wasnt exactly in my beginner’s ability range, so I took the weekend off and used it for some good training rides! I mean, when you can have views like this, you are okay with not racing for the day!

It was exceptionally hot last weekend…95+ degrees and no cloud cover. I was pretty excited to be sitting out that race! Brooke and I did our best to spray Ken with cold water every time he went by to help him cool off. He ended up in 6th with some excellent competition so we are going to call it a great start to the season.

This girl did some awesome cheering!

The past week has been a lot of training and also a lot of recovering. Took Monday, Thursday and Friday off the bike (Friday due to weather) and then had bike workouts on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning.

Friday morning, my sister-in-law and I braved the 5:15 am alarm for some awesome hot yoga at YogaPod. It was an excellent start to the day and weekend!

This morning, she and I went for a pretty decent tempo ride for an hour before meeting our team for some practice on a grassy course for another hour and then rode the 25 minutes home. My lovely hubby and kiddo met us their and Brooke played with a friend while we worked on our skills. It was encouraging seeing my improvement in riding things that scare me from last year. Seriously exhausted now! Got some new running shoes in the mail yesterday, so we may have to squeeze a jog in this afternoon with the B.O.B!

Hope you are having an active and awesome weekend!
